ShivaYash Posted August 27, 2017 Share #3741 Posted August 27, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don’t get the M-A. Surely the MP without batteries is the same? Just read the whole ‘I love my M-A’ thread and am none the wiser. They mainly seem to be talking about the black finish ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Advertisement Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 Hi ShivaYash, Take a look here I love my MP. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
semi-ambivalent Posted August 28, 2017 Share #3742 Posted August 28, 2017 I don't want everyone to realise how shallow I am.. ..but I bet your MP loves being bound by a Nikon strap.. ..do you REALLY love it? Yes, yes I do. One on my M3 too, but only black. Thanks for asking. You're not shallow at all but, really, pretty nice chiles aren't they... s-a

In respect of that difference, some people choose to go one way, some the other. Belittling those who choose a way that differs from your own preference isn't big or clever. Clearly I’ve struck a nerve. Your answer doesn’t tell me anything new. I’ve just purchased one to find out the difference myself. Just read the whole ‘I love my M-A’ thread and am none the wiser. They mainly seem to be talking about the black finish ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I don't have an M-A or an MP. But I spend too much time on this forum and as a result I've gleaned a smattering of info on both cameras. The differences are subtle but if you're a Leica aficionado/money is tight/the shooting experience matters, they really matter. The M-A has uninterrupted framelines, in the same way most of the the classic Wetzlar cameras have. Very zen. The MP framelines have a space cut out at the bottom to accommodate the LED display. The shutter release on the MP has a longer travel and a pressure point, whereas the one on the M-A has a shorter travel, and operates with one smooth push. Again, like the older M cameras. Also, the ISO dial on the M-A is rather beautiful compared to the one on the MP. If you use your camera a lot, these little differences add up to a lot more than the sum of their parts. Removing the batteries from an MP does not give you an M-A. Edited August 28, 2017 by colint544

Guest Posted August 28, 2017 Share #3749 Posted August 28, 2017 All the frames at once in front of your eye and no paralax compensation... And aren't they as big as an F? The crazy film loading (two hands ok - three hands would be even better) toping the experience.
NB23 Posted August 29, 2017 Share #3750 Posted August 29, 2017 All the frames at once in front of your eye and no paralax compensation... And aren't they as big as an F? The crazy film loading (two hands ok - three hands would be even better) toping the experience. Smaller and lighter thsn a M. Loading same as Leica: you need a third hand to hold the baseplate. Frames depend on the model. Best looking sexiest cameras ever. Blac paint sp, s3 ans S2... oh lala!
michaelwj Posted August 29, 2017 Share #3751 Posted August 29, 2017 But the baseplate on my M fits in my pocket, the back of an S doesn't... I agree though, a black SP looks sweet!

Sure it does, unless you wear those Glam metal ala Motley Crue pants... I also hold it in my mouth. I don't want to be a smartass here but a Nikon S plate stays very steadily on my head.

Removing the batteries from an MP does not give you an M-A. Indeed correct what you say; M-A is a fine alternative. I would just feel better about the M-A's price compared to an M3 or M2 if I knew for sure it did not retain the battery opening, covered over with a brass plate - exactly like the Leica 'Classic' did. Leica did that so that they could use the regular MP body casing to produce the Classic edition. Would make sense for the M-A too I suppose? Almost all closeup pictures of the M-A show a small, very slightly raised circular area where the MP battery would have been; this points to a cover being screwed down underneath. For the hell of it, I wish it was possible to take a look with an x-ray to find out
Guest )-( Posted August 30, 2017 Share #3755 Posted August 30, 2017 Mine definitely has no battery bump, the front is smooth, I'm not intending to X-ray it for the meantime, maybe next time I fly I'll try and sneak a peek.

zmcm Posted August 31, 2017 Share #3757 Posted August 31, 2017 Maybe you should look at M3 or M4?I don't know if all my M lenses can work on the M3 or M4...can anyone give me that information? Thanks Enviado do meu iPhone usando o Tapatalk
M9reno Posted August 31, 2017 Share #3758 Posted August 31, 2017 All M lenses ever made will mount and work on the M3 and M4. You may need an external viewfinder attached to the accessory shoe, depending on the lens, but that's not a major problem. Lens incompatibilities only begin with the M5, where certain deeply recessed lenses foul the light meter, or lens appendages like goggles foul the outside of the camera.
