Hello Paulus,

I was writing about something slightly different:

A while back there was a Leitz (Do you remember them?) advertising photo series about one of their cameras that fell out of an airplane & was in somewhat worse condition than your Camera-Lens-Rigid Lens Shade.

You might consider asking them if they would like to consider using your unfortunate trio as an example of the sturdiness of their photographic equipment & the wisdom of using a proper rigid lens shade for protection as well as for flare protection.

Best Regards,

Michael

You dropped it on the truck? ;)

Looks like the truck fared far worse! I knew these Leicas were tough!

In all seriousness, I know the gut-wrenching pain one feels when a camera takes a hard spill, but fortunately they can almost always be repaired and everything will be ok :)

The rangefinder is quite fragile, you will nevertheless see the CS
for a possible adjustment
I hope the camera set out again and make new beautiful photos
Thing that can happen Paulus
Good luck
One more thing, "if"  I sell all my photo equipment I will always keep

the analog MP

Hello Henry,

This kind of "if" talk is not appropriate. When thoughts of this type enter your mind it is time to look into a mirror & say "Henri: What is going on here?"

Do you use the word "if" when you think about your left hand or your right hand? Perhaps when you think about you elbow?

Silly thoughts all.

Best Regards,

Michael

By the way.

Many, many years ago when I was sitting on the edge of a cliff while having lunch: My M3, which was wrapped in a shirt, slipped off the edge of the cliff & rolled & bounced 25 meters down & landed on a pile of rocks.

I climbed down to retrieve my shirt since no camera or lens could have survived the fall.

I unwrapped the shirt. There was a small dent right over the main prism. Everything was fine. Camera & lens both.

Still good.

Best Regards,

Michael

Henry,

I feel the same way. Others may not but there is always that special something for me. For cameras it is the MP but I have to live with only the Big M6... Not a bad thing!:-))

Michael and David, this is just a guess (I said "if") :)  but It's not my habit to sell
Sometimes there is no gain and it gives attention as seller, although all my Leica equipment

are purchased new  !
In any case it is not my aim to win and luckily for me I'm not in need of money
and finally I do not sell ! I will give to my children if they ask me.

The Leica MP is a fabulous camera I think the best of Leica camera

Best regards

Henry

Got a message today, that my MP and summicron 50 survived the crash and are repaired.

Minor damage which could be repaired:

Viewfinder a little off. Bayonet was a little closer to the film plate, but that's all repaired now. Costs: € 85, ex VAT . Lens got a firm blow, but the repairwork should make it work again. Costs € 125,- ex VAT so one could say, that a firm body and lens pays itself back, or that I am very lucky. I'm anxious to see the result, but have to wait a few days more.

Did I get that right, Paulus you were awarded a Red Beret? If so many congratulations!

And the patient will survive too, quite a day!

Sincerely

Charles

;-) But still congratulations!

Charles

I will certainly pass it through. He will come some weeks to Vught for further education.  I will ask him if he see a guy with a Leica.

Met a crazy friend at a cafe, he brought his cameras. People on the street were going crazy asking us if we we're selling them. I said yes, one hundred bucks. You should have seen the guy's face.

100 $ for the lot or per piece?

Anyway, I'll take that M2 please if it is not spoken for ;-)

Sweet stuff there on the table!

Oh yes, that M2 was powerful. Very weird to say but holding it, I could feel its power, its energy. It clearly had more soul than the rest.

The bottom of the picture is the inside of the cafe and the upper part is the sidewalk. People were walking by and looking at the cameras with envy. I didn't know so many people were aware of Leica cameras... or was it their sheer beauty. Nonetheless, I said they were 100$ each to this one guy and he shortly freaked out. He then tried to keep his cool and buy it as if it was nobody's business but I soon told him it was a joke.

I have to applaud him for trying to keep his cool. This is exactly the way I envisioned myself when finding a half-frame M4-P or an original MP at a garage sale: cool, relaxed, nonchalant, haggle a bit and end up paying 95$ for an "old and broken camera which uses film that probably doesn't exist anymore" with a disgusted look on my face.  Yes, I can dream.

The best part is that all those cameras, less the MP, are presently being used in China.

Who does not dream about such an garage sale ;-)

Personally I think Garage sales are a myth and every single one telling you about it actually paid too much on an item on eBay and uses garage sale as a feel-good-cover-story to not upset the wife's budgetary grasp and end up in the dog house.

Pleased to read that! Hope you're reunited with the camera and lens asap!

Today my repaired MP and summicron were back! It looks great. With the " new " hood  ( with a little dent ) nobody could notice the combination has fallen with such an impact.
