Picked up a new MP at Wilkinson Cameras in the UK for £3000. I thought my M 240 was well made until I got this MP!

After debating for 6 months to decide on either an M-A or an MP, I went for an MP alacarte. I'm sure it'll be the last camera I'll be buying. Or am I just day-dreaming?;)

Looking at the most recent entry, I was wondering where you found the silver battery chamber cover?

Random thought: for those nostalgic for the early M4-2 bodies with the red Leitz dot on the body, perhaps a line of battery chamber covers in silver, black paint, or black chrome rings with different material inserts including ones saying Leitz, Leica, or model number in the classic or modern script. I'd like a silver ring, black insert, silver Leica text for the idea, please.

With the MP a la carte I got two covers. One in black with a " scewdriver slot " and one with matching colors and silver ( I bought a chrome MP ).

Hi Eric,

When I ordered, I requested for the battery cover to be in silver because the vulcanite in black comes with the standard black cover. I thought it would be aesthetically pleasing to have it in chrome. I'm plenty pleased with it.

Like Paulus, they also gave me a black one with the screwdriver head.

I've just taken delivery of a BP MP. It's new but old, one of the first run with a serial of 2880976 with the M6 ISO selector.

Apparently it had been with a collector and had not been used at all. That looks to be the case on receipt of it. The lens is new old stock as well. I think they marry well together. I'll leave the 50 LA on the M3 and will probably sell my M6 Classic .85. Do I still need my 28 cron though... I'm not sure I could part with it.

Very happy so far, even though it's been sitting for a while it's very smooth. Definitely as smooth as my M3 and M6 and I'd expect it to relax a bit more with use. The mount isn't as tight as my other Leicas though which is a very slight disappointment.

The 28 Summicron is such a great lens on a film body – don't sell it just because you have a 35 Summilux. I find the focal lengths quite different and tend to use them for different objectives (excuse the pun) and would be very reluctant to part with either.:)

Adam and Steve will be disappointed but I finally bought a MP instead of M-A.Yes, as I am quite lazy (to think), :o , I prefer to have a

measuring exposure .... I'll post you a picture soon !

I still have my 2 M7 but I'll give one to my son. I immediately mounted a 28 Cron asph and I've taken some b&w photos with Ilford HP5

Film is nor dead

I've had my MP for 11 years and I loved owning it..... but hated using it.

I bought it to take advantage of the Noctilux 'look' but even after having the body and lens calibrated by Leica found the whole rangefinder experience too antiquated. I was a focus puller for nearly 20 years and a have been a Director of Photography for 15 so not exactly a novice.

I've this week put the MP on ebay and bought a Sony A7 Mk2. Wow. What a beautifully made camera. Every inch as well crafted as the MP and its usability has rekindled my interest in the Noctilux. The m adapter works well as does the Nikon adapter so I intend to also sell the D800E

So MP, with regret, you're fired

I remember you from the forum's earlier days (is it Tony?).:) RF idiosyncrasies aside (a method of focussing that I like but can understand why it isn't universally popular), will you not miss using your Noctilux with classic film emulsions?
