andybarton Posted August 28, 2012 Share #2741 Posted August 28, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought mine from David too. They are made to order, but you have to wait until they have a batch to make.
Advertisement Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Hi andybarton, Take a look here I love my MP. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andyedward Posted August 28, 2012 Share #2742 Posted August 28, 2012 At the moment I have an M6 ttl which was very generously loaned to me by Stephens, and a zeiss 35/2, but as the M6 isnt mine and the lens isnt a leica, the combination somehow feels odd. I dont want to appear to be a snob, but it was the image quality from leicas lenses which initially drew me to the company. I have a 50mm leica on order
dave.gt Posted August 28, 2012 Share #2743 Posted August 28, 2012 I know I am going to hate myself for asking... But, what is the going price for a black paint MP these days?
farnz Posted August 28, 2012 Share #2744 Posted August 28, 2012 Dave, If you're talking about a new one then you'll need to 'build' the one you want here and the price will appear at the end. If you're talking about a pre-owned one then between about £2000 and £2500 depending on condition. Pete.
dave.gt Posted August 28, 2012 Share #2745 Posted August 28, 2012 Thank you, Pete....my dream is to have two, of course, one in black and one in silver! But, maybe the M3 will suffice for the silver one.... Time to start saving!

smkoush Posted August 30, 2012 Share #2749 Posted August 30, 2012 My silver one got a sibling two weeks ago. I can't decide which one I prefer. Photographs are of course unaffected, but the black one feels softer, I kind of like it. The silver one is and feels pure metal (chrome over brass). There is also a slight difference in weight between the two, with the silver one being heavier by 4 grams. I guess the difference boils down to the feel of the camera in the hands while out and about. Anyway, two excellent cameras. Savvas Welcome, dear visitor! SJP Posted August 31, 2012 Share #2751 Posted August 31, 2012 <snip> Then, I went to the configurator Now I am miserable. <snip> Place and location please! To quote the governator "I'll be back'. Also 'resistance is futile'. These are such useful quotes from recent literature, often misquoted or maligned for no obvious reason.
dave.gt Posted August 31, 2012 Share #2752 Posted August 31, 2012 Clint Eastwood: Go ahead. Make my day.... I wish. I figure if I start squirrelling away a hundred here and a hundred there, I should be able to buy a new MP outright in about 48 months! And still keep the M3. So, I need to buy a brick of Tri-X every six months whilst saving up and when I get my new MP, I should be set for another 48 months! Eight year plan. Not bad.
MPerson Posted September 1, 2012 Share #2753 Posted September 1, 2012 Mine has just started to brass after about 15 months of use It is surprising how quickly they will brass if used regularly. I know some people don't like brassing but I love mine - seems to give it character and shows they are used as intended. Mine has taken a right battering over the last six years or so but it never falters.
dave.gt Posted September 1, 2012 Share #2754 Posted September 1, 2012 I am looking forward to brassing a camera for a change. The M3 is chrome, the IIIF is chrome, and the R4 is resistant to any brassing with the black chrome. Even so, with the M3, it is taking a lifetime to realize ownership...with a black paint Leica, maybe not so long as brassing imparts a bit more character to both the camera and its owner. Leica M cameras have soul.
honcho Posted September 2, 2012 Share #2755 Posted September 2, 2012 Mine still refuses to show hardly any brass after 6 years of fairly regular use. I never use a case, if not around my neck or in my hand, it's unprotected in a daysack when I'm out walking. The only brassing is a minute bit on the end of the wind-on lever from my thumb and where it makes contact with the hotshoe. There is a little brightness around the shutter speed dial and some barely perceptible rub marks near the lugs from the horrible standard Leica strap before I changed it for an A&A silk cord. The top plate shows some very faint surface scratches that don't penetrate the lacquer. The lacquer has proven more durable than I expected it to be when I bought it.
