Bateleur Posted December 21, 2010 Share #1906 Posted December 21, 2010 Having succumbed to the charms of the MP and declaring that on this thread, attending a photo event recently made me realize just how much I love the camera (and really the rangefinder principle). The event was a mix of commercialism and photo opportunities, the latter being my reason for attending. As I moved around the various stages taking photographs I was unconscious of the camera. Simply I could concentrate on the subject(s) unencumbered by the camera in my hand, a simple, uncluttered, smooth and quiet instrument. As each moment unfolded before me the focus and exposure adjustments were instinctive with the demure focus patch and unobtrusive metering led’s. It was a joy to walk about the halls and interact with some of the people and just be part of the event without the camera dominating. As I walked to catch my train home I mused over the day remembering the subjects and events hardly aware of the mechanical process of taking photographs and thinking the best camera is no camera at all. Perhaps not a profound discovery and one most can attest too, but for me a reason to fall in love with the camera again and indeed with all Leica’s I have been honoured to use. Now to get my aesthetics up to par!

Photon42 Posted December 28, 2010 Share #1909 Posted December 28, 2010 There's only so much you can do with an iPhone image.... Well ... it's about time Leica adds a phone-cum-camera (or better: vice versa) to their product portfolio So: where is the lPhone? Cheers Ivo

jacarape Posted December 28, 2010 Share #1911 Posted December 28, 2010 Stone, also my last roll of K64 also went through my MP and a semi beater 35/1.4 ASPH. The last click was sad but I liked what I saw in the VF, dog with his favorite toy a Kong.

ezc203 Posted December 29, 2010 Share #1913 Posted December 29, 2010 My last Kodakchrome 64 film was shot with this combo. What's that covering you have here? It looks nice! I am in the process of replacing the "shark skin" finish on my MP, hate it. Will probably result to using morgan at cameraleather.com

ezc203 Posted January 8, 2011 Share #1916 Posted January 8, 2011 That cover looks great, but I think I'd love to get an ostrich skin if it's possible.

jplomley Posted January 8, 2011 Share #1918 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) I don't get all this MP love. The small shutter speed dial is useless if you are wearing winter gloves. Having to manually adjust exposure just takes too long for rapidly changing conditions. Don't get me wrong, they look pretty and everything with all their fancy skins, but from a functional POV for the street genre, I put the MP back on the counter and ended up with a pair of M7's instead! I await the firing squad Edited January 8, 2011 by jplomley
ezc203 Posted January 8, 2011 Share #1919 Posted January 8, 2011 Jeff - I'm definitely with you here. I have a CLE which is better than your M7 ( hehe) and I have to agree its more practical. But what I love about the MP is that I don't need batteries for it to work. The fact that its mechanically means a lot to me.

I await the firing squad It can get pretty cold here (Montreal) in winter so I have some pretty thick gloves. That's never caused any problems for me and my MP. It may be a bit slower to change shutter speeds but then again, the MP was never meant for rapid-fire shooting so I'm OK with that.
