An addendum to my post above: the only two things I didn't fancy about the Troop 0058 bag were that (1) there was no padding in the bottom of the bag, so I was worried about my gear getting knocked about were it set down too hard and (2) as there was nothing to give the bottom of the bag shape or rigidity, the sides of the bag tended to "collapse," making it difficult to pull my camera out quickly when necessary.

 

I believe I've solved both problems in one go. I got a piece of low density one-inch thick foam rubber. I cut a strip 6 inches wide (the width of the bag when the bottom is unzipped for expansion) by the length of the bag and slipped it in the bottom. When I zipped the bottom back up, the foam fit neatly & snugly. It gives the bag a pleasing bit of "volume" and enables me to get things in and out*smoothly. And now my kit is well protected from knocks from below.

 

Sorry for the somewhat tangential post. But this particular style of bag, with a bit of modification, would make an ideal home for some of the wonderful gear I've been ogling covetously in this thread. :-)

I no longer own an MP so I'm selling this book. This one should have some collectible value since it is signed by the author (that's what makes this copy special) and the photo illustrations are of high quality. I don't know if it is still available for sale anywhere.

But thinking selling off the whole kit , don't have much time to scan photos - though nothing compares to film - no digital DSLR , even Nikon D3x comes close to films - i have seen it all.

 

Yet planning to sell it, along with Nikon 5000ed, Zeiss 25/2.8, 35/2, 50/2, 50/1.5, and a set of B+W and heliopan filters, Gunter Osterloh's book on leica, etc etc.

 

Anyone else in my boat?

I don't quite understand... You praise it so much, it even bests the D3X and yet it's not good enough so you're selling it?

It would be a hard decision to sell. I remember selling some gear cause I had too once. I sold it to a friend on the priviso that I could buy it back one day at the same price. I empathize your decision to sell. Karma may return the camera back to you one day. Peace

...I'm confused. Are you planning on selling your film equipment because you are unable to scan your photographs, or is there some other overriding reason? I ask because I do not scan my images but still would not see that as a reason for getting rid of my film equipment.

The OP's predicament does not seem to be about quality, or even a film vs. digital problem -- it seems to be about time and perhaps (although I read between the lines here) perhaps a certain disillusion, disappointment?

Hi, Andy! Good tip on that Troop bag. That thing seems tailor-made for toting around Leica gear. And I discovered today that Travel Zone (or at least the Croydon branch) has them on sale for £19.99. My M3 is now comfortably ensconced in the twin to yours, instead of that small ugly Lowepro that felt like a brick on my hip.

 

Just got back from hols and catching up. I have also found that the Billingham Large Hadley Insert fits the bag very snugly. As you can see with the insert it will comfortable take two film M's and my D2 but I usually just have one film M and the D2 with a lens or two.

Well, planning to sell the kit because scanning photos is tiresome and time consuming - even though I prefer the look of the films compared to the digital photos.

 

Not too keen on Leica M8 in its present incarnation. And going by the S2 trend, if we ever have M9 , the price is likely to be prohibitive:(. So, will take the final decision after the much anticipated 9/9/9.

 

Whatever the decision might be, MP is very special and will miss it forever.

Came over from digital to film because of MP and have been using it since. But if I now move back to digital, most probably I will never return to film again:o Maintaining two systems is very expensive, particularly when it's just a hobby, not a profession.

I've never used the ASPH version, so can't compare. I use the Summilux 50 E46 pre- version quite content that it's as good as I need it to be. I do find that I like the look of the E46 Summilux with b/w TriX more than my current version Summicron 50 though. The Summilux being a little smoother and contrast less harsh. Where as I prefer the Summicron with color Portra. Personal preference though, and probably doesn't mean much to anyone beyond that.
