Lovely Shane.

Still alive today after 3,500 Million years of pumping oxygen into the atmosphere!

I have several stromatolite fossils from the Flinders Ranges (SA) and the McDonnell Ranges in NT.

There are some (alive) near Port Lincoln too.

Nice picture, cheers...

The ones at Port Lincoln are different and only recently recognised.  I went over to have a look at them...not so nicely formed as those at Shark Bay.

There are also Stromatolites which have grown in air, in limestone caves, called "Craybacks"...which I have seen several times, in the Jenolan Caves, NSW.

I had a fly around the Shark Bay stroms, and deeply regret not landing and having a swim amongst them.  (Helicopter from Exmouth to Perth along the coast).

There is a huge record of stromatolites fossilised in South Australia's Flinders Ranges.

They fascinate me endlessly.

all best..

For Shane...

The stromatolites at Sleaford Mere, just south of Port Lincoln, South Australia.

A beautiful land-locked lagoon.

I was recently visiting so took some pictures.
