Minolta lenses on the M240

I recently purchased an 240 M-P and have been very happy with this camera for RF shooting with my Leica M lenses.  I have many Minolta and Sony lenses that I use on a Sony A99 SLR, and was going to sell some of it because most of my shooting over the past few years has been with RF gear, mostly the Leica M5 for film and the M8 for digital.  But I would like to explore the use of some of the better A-mount lenses, including a Minolta 200 2.8 AP0 lens on my M 240 with an adapter for this mount.

My questions are, has anyone in the forum used the Novaflex adapter with Minolta or Sony A-mount lenses on the M240 or SL?  And before I invest in some longer range Leica R lens options, do you feel the image quality with Minolta glass on Leica cameras is comparable to results obtained with Leica R glass?  My main interest is in the telephoto range performance, because I have excellent M-lenses in the 21mm to 90mm range.   I would be using the longer range lenses mostly for landscape/seascape photos and occasionally for environmental portraits.

Do the A mount lenses have an aperture ring ? Or are they electronically controlled ?

If they are electrically controlled, you may be limited to shooting with the aperture wide open

I have both the Novoflex and Kipon Minolta/Sony A to Leica M adapter, they work really well and they are both of high quality. You can control the aperture on the lens. Minolta made some really nice lenses before they sold the lens section to Sony. I guess you already knew since you have the 200mm f/2 lens.

Thanks everyone for your input.  My minolta lenses are all autofocus and do not seem to have an aperture ring.  I do not know how I could stop down without one.

If it were possible to control aperture on these lenses, I would definitely get hold of the adapter!   If I cannot do this, I'll probably go for the 70-210 f/4 zoom as my first telephoto R lens.

....On the other hand, if an A-mount to M adapter is made, there must be a way to control aperture without an aperture ring on the lens.  Does the adapter have a ring on it that engages the aperture mechanism on the A-lenses?   Thanks.

Well, as noted by Mikozia, the Minolta/Sony A-mount to Leica M adapters do control aperture.  I checked the Novaflex website to confirm the model number for Minolta/Sony AF.  They do not give details for how this is accomplished, but with a ring on the adapter itself, it must engage the thin metal band on the back of the lens that adjusts aperture.   I'll give it a try.   Should be interesting.

There may be an adaptor with the aperture control ring like the one for Nikon G lenses

I have a novoflex adaptor for m- Nikon and it has a blue ring that controls the aperture of a G lens

Yes, I have a Novoflex for Minolta/Sony A-mount to M on the way.   Glad I asked the question on this forum!

Thank you so much for the information, too. Is it able to achieve focussing to infinity?

Thanks again.
