Would you buy Leica T zoom for $950 on Ebay, new?

Overstock has the wide angle zoom for $1048. Good price...

Any vendor sells camera or lenses much lower than B&H or Adorama, etc, looks suspicious to me.

I find Leica T zoom lenses, new, selling for under $1000, would you trust that? will you buy? any bad or good experience?

I feel the same way!

Recently I saw on EBay a new leica T 18-56 at $850; and I wondered how much anyone could trust this kind of price that is too good to be true! The sellers claimed to be an "authorized" leica dealer but didn't even offer a warranty for a new lens!... When I asked him this question, he said because Leica doesn't cover lenses sold on EBay!... Not convincing to me!

I have had very good success on eBay.

I ask questions so that the seller has made representations about condition to my satisfaction, and then pay with PayPal and credit card, which both provide buyer protection services. So, if the representations are not accurate one has recourse through eBay, pay pal and credit card company.

I personally would not buy. But, if the seller offers a 30 day return policy, might be worth it. Without a return policy, would skip it. If the lens works and in good condition, nothing else likely to go wrong. And isn't the warranty with the manufacturer, not the shop you buy from??

eBay is just a platform for people and companies to sell through.

If you purchase from a company your consumer rights (in your country) are the same as if you bought from them directly.

Where it gets cloudy is when you buy from a seller in a different country, or if the item you're buying isn't brand new and doesn't come with a normal warranty.

I noticed many of these do not carry Leica USA waranttee, nor the international Leica waranttee.

What does it mean?

I don't know what it means specifically, but if you are looking to buy new on EBay and the price is way lower than bought at a store that represents Leica, you are getting what you pay for. Cheap is cheap. You take the risk and get the savings. I have had all good experiences with EBay as long as you see they have a return policy, and have a good rating. Have bought and sold several lenses. But these were all used. Buying new, it's a bit fishy. You have to ask where did they get these lenses? I would rather buy used, if I were you.

I checked with Leica and this seller is NOT an authorized Leica dealer as they claimed to be. He is lying and therefore, should not be trusted! I know, the price he is suggesting is also a little too good to be true!...

I also checked Ebay, this offer has been removed!... So, I guess we must be very careful of what we see on Ebay. ... I am also in contact with another seller and if there is anything the forum should know, I will post it for your information.

If the lens is new it will have a Leica international warranty. If it's a grey import and there was a fault your local distributor (i.e. Leica USA) may refuse to handle it but you can still return the lens to Germany for repair.

If the seller is stating that there is no warranty then you can only assume that the lens is not in fact 'new' and I would look elsewhere, unless the saving is such that you feel the risk is worth taking.
