.....and now, for something completely different.

 

In 1948, American motoircycle racer Rollie Free decided to break the absolute motorcycle speed record at Bonneville. He chose the prototype of the then brand-new Vinvent 'Black lightning' series and managed to go a tad over 150mph to set a record that stood for many years, wearing a showercap, borrowed sneakers and a Speedo swimsuit (small image - not mine - is a world famous period press photo to show the actual event ).

 

Rollie passed in 1984, and the bike was 'lost' for a long time but was found in a Texas collection and restored to the exact specifications of the record run a few years ago - and was then displayed as the centerpiece at the 'Quail Classic Motorcycle Gathering' where a statue / model of Rollie on his bike was also featured in front of the actual, beautifully authentic, rare Vincent he rode to glory.
