SL 50/1,4 data sheet online

How are we a full year into the SL system and they haven't figured out how to release a lens weighing less than 1kg?

Meanwhile we have mirrorless medium format coming out with leaf shutter integrated lenses @ 500g coming out.

"Coming out". I bet there are lighter Leica lenses "coming out" as well..one day.

I think Leica has been criticized to bring lenses too slow when releasing the X-VArio and the T. Now they focuse on faster lenses and are criticized that the lenses are too heavy. I admit I am looking forward to the Summicrons and wish they came earlier.

Why the change of heart about this lens now? I was getting bashed when I told you all it wasn't nearly as good as the Otus or 50APO.. And that the size was silly for the performance.. size:performance ratio is totally off.. Now you guys magically agree because you've seen some charts?

the mtf-graph looks spectacular, especially wide open. I'm really excited about this lens, I'm just worried about the S-system which looses it's superiority

PS: The mtf show also that it should have more micro-contrast than the Apo-Summicron!

The field curvature doesn't bother you?

not that much. if not to say not at all. If I use a lens like the Summilux then for highlighting some areas within the frame. And I don't see any case when this should be on the outer edges of the frame

If you put the same lens on the SL and the S you will see the S is not loosing its superiority. Its not only a larger sensor but also a better sensor (DR, color, tonality)

hm, how do you know? It should be the same sensor as in the 240, just bigger, right? the S-lenses don't show the same amount of microcontrast (according to the mtf). Please tell me that I'm wrong :-)

There is more to a lens than MTF and bench tests. Yes the 1kg is heavy but that is 1/90th of my weight and how it feels in my hand is the key, not the weight on a scale.

As for MTF. It beats all the others at f1.4 and f2 for the 40lppm.

I was very sceptical and wrote that I would not buy it. After seeing initial results, I am tempted. I will go to my local dealer with my cash in pocket.
