baci Posted November 16, 2016 Share #1 Posted November 16, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK, the good news? Just received my FlashQ triggers in the mail. Bad news? It don't seem to work on the M240. Flash in hotshot of camera - works fine. So the flash is OK, and the hot shoe is sending the 'fire' signal Flash in FlashQ receiver, transmitter on camera, Flash fires when I hit the 'test' button on the transmitter (which means the two units are talking) but nothing happens when I hit the shutter release with a shutter speed of 180 or less. Am I missing something? First time I've used a trigger. Thanks in advance. Michael
Advertisement Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Hi baci, Take a look here FlashQ and M240. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Exodies Posted November 16, 2016 Share #2 Posted November 16, 2016 Has the flash gone into sleep mode?
baci Posted November 16, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted November 16, 2016 No, alas. I'll use the trigger on the transmitter and the light pops. I wait for the flash to recharge then push the shutter release on the camera and... nothing.
Exodies Posted November 16, 2016 Share #4 Posted November 16, 2016 I had a cheap pair of triggers and they used an interaction with the camera through the hot shoe to decide whether they were a transmitter or receiver. This didn't work on my M as the off centre contacts don't work like Nikon ones. Both triggers thought they were the receiver.
jaapv Posted November 16, 2016 Share #5 Posted November 16, 2016 Does the trigger push all the way in? On some flash units I need to file one corner or even the front edge of the hot shoe to get the central contact to connect.
baci Posted November 16, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted November 16, 2016 Thanks Jaap - great idea - I'm away from home right now but will check when I get back.
baci Posted November 17, 2016 Author Share #7 Posted November 17, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK - mystery solved. For those that (might) come after me with the same question, Jaap was more or less right. The metal base plate on the trigger has two tapered edges which I interpreted as 'insert this way'. In fact I had the unit the wrong way around in the hot shoe so the contacts weren't connecting. While my SF-58 won't actually go into the hot shoe the wrong way around, these things can and do. Problem solved! Thanks Japp.
Soden Posted November 17, 2016 Share #8 Posted November 17, 2016 Glad you resolved your issue. I have a set of FlashQ and have had no problems. It's nice to have a trigger so small that it's virtually invisible. My only wish is that it was PW compatible so my sekonic meters could trigger it... but I think that's asking too much. So far my FlashQ set works reliably. Which I guess is high praise.
