Advertisement Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Hi clic-clac, Take a look here i'm about to buy a second hand Q, any tips?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Voxen Posted November 16, 2016 Share #2 Posted November 16, 2016 The only concern I know about the Q is dust on the sensor, so you should look at this point first. Take a picture of the blue sky at f/16 and zoom in the picture to check that its not full of black spots.
Herve5 Posted November 16, 2016 Share #3 Posted November 16, 2016 shake it a bit and listen. If you hear a little noise from the lens, ask for performing a hardware reset, and do it again. Normally no more noise.
Goonz Posted November 16, 2016 Share #4 Posted November 16, 2016 There will be noise when shaking the camera when it's off! This is the stabilization system and it's perfectlu normal. -I would go and inspect the body for any damages. -Image count doesn't really matter as it's mirrorless -See if the auto focus still works correctly. -Go through all the apertures. -Focus ring should lock when in auto focus. -Focus ring has to be smooth -Aperture ring has to click -Test the touch screen -See if the exposure dial isn't loose -Press all the buttons. None should stick -If you are paying cash, leave it in the car untill you are sure you want to buy it. Groeten terug uit België!
Mr.Q Posted November 16, 2016 Share #5 Posted November 16, 2016 Yeah, I'd look for any spots on the sensor. Otherwise the Q is mechanically pretty reliable.
earleygallery Posted November 16, 2016 Share #6 Posted November 16, 2016 I'd ask when the seller bought it and if they can show you the receipt - it may still be under warranty.
Overgaard Posted November 16, 2016 Share #7 Posted November 16, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) It should be fairly simple to buy a second-hand Leica Q. It's often with electronics that either it stops working the first days, or it keeps working forever. Two batteries is a good idea (for any camera) so that is a plus. The only thing you might need is a strap with the perfect length for you. But else, ready to go! You live in Belgium so even dust or any other subject ont he Leica Q would be easily handled in Wetzlar that is close by. Leica generally are very service-minded in Wetzlar, so any problem before or after warranty is usually solved elegantly. Enjoy the new camera. Orguy Posted November 16, 2016 Share #8 Posted November 16, 2016 I know on some things, like watches with a reputation, counterfeits are a big problem. For example, Rolex copies exist that look great. (Perfect) and only a jeweler who opens it up can tell that some, or all of it, are counterfeit. Don't know if this problem exists yet for Leica, but considering the reputation and cost of Leica I wouldn't be surprised. In China, they have counterfeit entire Apple stores stocked with Apple knockoffs! Yuk. Just pointing this out in case someone knows more about it. microview Posted November 16, 2016 Share #9 Posted November 16, 2016 Great answer from Goonz [4]. But perhaps politely ask the seller whether he liked the camera or not – ie, why is he selling it?
clic-clac Posted November 17, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted November 17, 2016 Thank you all for all the great tips! He's selling the Q because of going with medium format, he tells me... he used it as a back-up camera. Waranty on it untill august of 2017, so that's comforting to know... Tomorrow is the day! Belle123 Posted November 17, 2016 Share #11 Posted November 17, 2016 Sounds like a good one. Are leica warranties transferrable? That would be something to check out. I have bought used Leica from a Leica dealer, pieces that should still have warranty, but the dealer only gave me 30 days worth. So, I suspect can not transfer but will be curious if can do. sls Posted November 17, 2016 Share #12 Posted November 17, 2016 The IS rattle still unnerves me. I tested mine by flying off a quad-bike, landing on it and rolling down a hill. It survived better than me and even though I was on a dusty jungle track, no dust inside. I've found the AF lock has softened a little over time, always good to make sure is in place. The original lens cap had tape inside that fell off, so the cap fell off. Leica will replace it for free. It was a design fault. The new one seems better. Get a half-case for it and enjoy. microview Posted November 17, 2016 Share #13 Posted November 17, 2016 I thought the lens cap was awful, so I screw on a B&W filter and rarely resort to the hood.
Belle123 Posted November 17, 2016 Share #14 Posted November 17, 2016 I just looked up info on transferring warranties. Doesn't look doable. So, if the seller is making that a plus, correct them.
Bjiork Posted November 17, 2016 Share #15 Posted November 17, 2016 In Europe the warrany is related to the camera not the owner. Yes it is transferable. I had this question before and called to Werzlar.
clic-clac Posted November 18, 2016 Author Share #16 Posted November 18, 2016 WOOHOOW! The camera was impeccable condition. Included: grips for the hand with another grip for fingers, film protection, extra charger, 3 batteries in total and one big waterfall of info about the camera, this dutchman loves his camera's!!! Waranty is indeed transferable. The seller even deleted his registration with Leica and is now registered under my name. Now i need to learn how to use it! First thing that surprised me was the way to focus... how cool is that! Thanks again for all the tips, i checked most of them Happy cheers!

Now take a lot of time learning to shoot and practice a ton! It takes awhile. Especially if you were more accustomed to something like 35mm or 50mm. And of course adjust the settings to your hearts content!
