Roger Pellegrini Posted November 13, 2016 Share #1 Posted November 13, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have noticed that, when using the flash on my D-Lux 109, my photographs are appearing slightly soft (borderline out of focus). This is not happening when I use natural light. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Advertisement Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Hi Roger Pellegrini, Take a look here Photos slightly soft when using 109 Flash. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jip Posted November 15, 2016 Share #2 Posted November 15, 2016 This is interesting, what shutter speed are you using, if you Use 'slow sync' you might see residial light from the ambient light. Please post a few pictures where this happened, then we can help you better.
Roger Pellegrini Posted November 20, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted November 20, 2016 Here are two examples. I do not have this problem using the D-Lux 6. I must have a setting wrong but I don't know what it is.

stuny Posted November 23, 2016 Share #6 Posted November 23, 2016 I suspect that at least part of the answer is the red arrows are on either side (closer to the camera and farther away) of what the camera focused on. That's a fairly deep area to have in focus with a relatively weak light source. I wonder if selecting the point of focus would make a difference, not to mention a small (numerically higher) aperture. What was the aperture?
mikemgb Posted November 23, 2016 Share #7 Posted November 23, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I agree with stuny, the focus appears to be on the faucet and sink, there simply isn't enough depth of field to bring everything into focus. Roger Pellegrini Posted November 23, 2016 Author Share #8 Posted November 23, 2016 I am sorry to say that isn't the problem. I have used the D-Lux 6 for quite a while and never had that problem and have been taking these kinds of pictures for years. I only started using the D-Lux 109 in the last month. Also, the faucet and sink are equally out of focus on my end. The camera was in Program mode. One would assume that the flash would stop the lens down to a sufficient degree. That, and the fact that the lens was zoomed to its widest should mean everything would be in focus.
mikemgb Posted November 23, 2016 Share #9 Posted November 23, 2016 In program mode the Typ 109 is going to open the aperture as much as it can to keep the ISO low. Take a look at the Exif data and see what the numbers are. If you shoot in aperture priority mode stopped down to about F8 you will probably get much better results. I would also shoot that scene without flash, the Typ 109 is so good in low light conditions I find the flash is hardly ever necessary.
lct Posted November 23, 2016 Share #10 Posted November 23, 2016 Happened to me in AE mode also. It's just that i was in macro mode stupidly... Not to say that you were as stupid as i was of course ! Roger Pellegrini Posted November 23, 2016 Author Share #11 Posted November 23, 2016 I thought it might macro focus but checked and it wasn't.
Roger Pellegrini Posted November 23, 2016 Author Share #12 Posted November 23, 2016 I will try Aperture Mode and also shooting without flash. I have also increased the Sharpness setting. Thanks for all the advice.
