willeica Posted January 17, 2017 Share #1941 Posted January 17, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) At a production level, the bottom plate design goes back to 1925. It relates to the fact that the original Leica body was made from a piece of metal tubing with the shape we all know as that of a Leica. This shape has been carried through to the present time. It made some sense in the film years, although trimming the film leader was/is a bit of a pain in the LTM models. The M models introduced a back door and thus a hole in the metal tubing which has now been replaced in the digital era with an LCD screen. The time for a change was with the M8 when a small door could have been introduced at the back or the side, as in most other digital cameras for the SD card. Traditional style over function, however, seems to be something of a mantra with Leica designers. The company is also very fond of anniversary editions. Perhaps they are going for the 100th anniversary of the bottom plate, which is only 8 years away at this stage. William

pop Posted January 18, 2017 Share #1942 Posted January 18, 2017 I'm surprised Steve can't give us a full breakdown of what Leica is about to announce, using his paranormal powers ... He most certainly could do so, but only if they were dead.

He will but he's a slow writer; it will be ready on Thursday.

Agent M10 Posted January 18, 2017 Share #1945 Posted January 18, 2017 Hmm, Leica Rumors is reporting that the M10's weight will be 660 grams. My M-D is 680 grams. The M262's weight is 600 grams. So, at least as to weight, not too much difference. (Thought I'd be the one to put it over 100 pages. Rats.)
jmahto Posted January 18, 2017 Share #1946 Posted January 18, 2017 Leica should design the camera with two battery types. Slim for weight watchers and the fat for regular folks.
dkmoore Posted January 18, 2017 Share #1947 Posted January 18, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) We may see the first shipments arriving this week as from what I understand they are packed up and at customs for shipping...Would be nice to go into the weekend with my shiny new silver M10.. I agree with the many other comments that we will see another M240 variant in the next year or so with extra doohickeys.

Distagon Posted January 18, 2017 Share #1950 Posted January 18, 2017 Well, I can tell you that I will be paying $6,595.00 for mine on Friday but if you want to pay more I tip by hat to you! D Depends on where in the world you buy, subject to varying costs of business, exchange rates, probably differential pricing, and of course local taxes. So, short of flying to the opposite side of the planet, earning some of your local currency, and ordering from your dealer, I don't think it is quite as simple as choosing one's price internationally. I do appreciate your reporting the price your being charged, though.
Distagon Posted January 18, 2017 Share #1951 Posted January 18, 2017 Leicarumors now saying 660g, only 20g lighter than the M240...... seems to contradict all the previous reports of significant weight reductionAlso means the Instagram leaker was talking BS when he suggested 550 gr.It sounded like a far to radical a change in weight... edwardkaraa Posted January 18, 2017 Share #1952 Posted January 18, 2017 You should add 35% Trump tax. Because "Germans don't buy US cameras and that's an unfair one-way street business relationship". I thought this kind of posts isn't allowed. Because if it isn't, I have plenty of replies in mind
norm_snyder Posted January 18, 2017 Share #1953 Posted January 18, 2017 I don't have to wait until tomorrow to figure out that, regardless of the cost, I have to decide what other gear I am (going) to sell, in order to rationalize this inevitable purchase. With live view, I can get rid of the loupe on the BEOON when I scan my M6 negatives.

Guest )-( Posted January 18, 2017 Share #1958 Posted January 18, 2017 It'll be interesting to see how it plays with R lenses; will there be a moveable zoom point, will it use this improved clip on EVF, and (more generally) can it manage more than 60 second exposures. I'd like a digital R body but baulk at the size of the SL. $9000+ Australian would take a bit of saving too lol. My car really did cost less than this. That was one of my arguments to buy the M(240) when it came out, but it turned out to be somewhat of a disappointment so let's hope it's good this time:). The SL works quite nicely with R-glass. Or you can wait for the QL, which I believe will give you all the advantages of the SL in a smaller package.
