Perhaps you could use the M10 as a gimbal counterweight for the DG Vario-Elmar kit, thereby justifying the "M10 in Africa" title and continuing your enjoyable series? Well, that notwithstanding, you also seem to always include some wonderful people and context photos that would be suited to the M10, even if they aren't proper safari shots. So, don't let it be the end of those.

Actually, it just occurred to me that it could be a rather profitable strategy, if aggressively anti-customer, to release the M-262++ model as the M10 now, and then once sales slow down release the M-240++ model with video et al and reap multiple sales to the same customers. The opposite of this, of course, would be to do the customer-friendly thing, and announce the M10 as well as the M10 ala carte program that returns to multiple finder magnification as well as optional video, Monochrom, and finishes -- all available for immediate queueing in the manufacturing process. But. What dreams may come.

Cheers,

Jon

Well, the M240 - VE kit will get a last outing in April. After that the big reorganization will take place. :)

Yes! Queue me up. This would indeed be very customer-friendly and Leica should offer it!

Forget it, Leica will never do such a thing at the beginning of an M lifecycle.

Not because this would make it even harder for them to sell M cameras towards the end of a lifecycle,

but because they are evil and there is some dark magic going on at Leica.

Now they are going to release the M10 as true successor of the M9, as if the M240 never existed.

So what if all the m240s suddenly disappear on Wednesday?

So just to be sure, I am going to put my M240 in a faraday cage on Tuesday evening and also wrap some silver wire around it. Yes, that should do the trick.

I think Leica will sell more Ms by offering M10 a la cartel on day one. People like me who would probably wait for the M-P or the MM would instead place their order now, even if the queue is 12 months out. If instead Leica makes us wait we might be tempted by interesting offerings coming from other manufacturers.

So why does NDA only apply selectively, apparently ?

NB He has only shown the exterior. He has been careful to say nothing about other functionality, specs & performance - little that one couldn't infer from earlier leaks. Makes you suspicious that these are deliberate leaks to get us talking about it. And it's worked.

Edit: I see Jaap has just said the same

Oh, I'm not so sure that it's as 'organised' as that - maybe sometimes they make a virtue of necessity?

I don't think it's terribly Machiavellian

Maybe all these months of talk about the the next Leica, the talk of vid or no vid, evf in or out or internal, iso wheels and adding lightness has made me insane, but I had a vision last night. In it, I saw four girded horses, the first being ridden by an M240, the next by a 262, a third with a 264 amount and finally the last with a M-D in the saddle.  Two days to RF-maggedon, my friends, just two days. Prepare thyself.

That's all well and good, Tailwagger, but had you slept longer you would remember the vision of the four angels at the four corners of the blogosphere -- one each, cyan, magenta, yellow, and black -- who win favor for those who have always been faithful to the one true messsucherkamera.

My Monochrom will still be fine on Wednesday, and a year from Wednesday, so I find all of this quite amusing and enjoyable.

Cheers,

Jon

I've been quiet. I can wait until the official announcement, but being in a horrible ice-storm at the moment,  helped by a Wisconsin brandy, and praying me darlin makes it home safe,  I yield to Minnesota cabin fever which is like a reality(truth) experience. :)

An M9 simplicity plus. With 36 megapixels CMOS, a USB port and I'm a happy man. That is simple.

I must admit that WiFi connectivity to connect with a smart phone for composing and triggering would be so very cool. I do it now with two iPhones, so why cannot Leica do the same?  (Smile)

That is all I wish. What's the hard part?

Oh, the price, but I digress into nomans' land. I'm too old to worry about price. :)

Peace,

Pico

Remember Jaap... I worked for Linn Products for over twenty years. Our marketing department was credited with some unbelievably clever things... and with some of the more extreme things that happened, Machiavellian was one of the more polite things they were called.

The reality was, none of them were anything like as smart as they were given credit for... what marketing departments are good at doing is knowing when to keep quiet when the shit hits the fan... the quieter you are, the more credit your receive for everything that goes right... and the more deniable it is when everything goes wrong... made even more true because they did nothing, anyway.

The world is not as complicated as everyone tries to make out. And the vast majority of people are far less clever.

Its a weird take on 'better be quiet and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt'...

I have been quiet for too long...So my 25 cents worth:  Given the much larger in size outer dimensions of the viewfinder on the leaked photos, I believe the primary distinction to justify the upgrade from my M246 (and allow Leica to maintain their current price structure) will be a hybrid EFV contained within the RF viewing system. Being one of the aging baby boomers with eye sight to match, this alone would be the most welcome feature. Add in the smaller dimensions, lower starting ISO and ability to adjust ISO quickly, would in my mind justify the upgrade.
