As a leicanonikosonypanaepsoricoh ;) digital user for 15+ years my feeling is each new sensor generation brings cleaner high isos and it's not tomorrow that such evolution will stop if you ask me.

It isn't a question of evolution, but one of degree. What evolutionary jumps or leaps have occurred in the last 3 to 4 years that has called for shelling out another $3K or $4K? Nikon is still selling its 810 as one of its top DSLRs and that came out in 2014.

Depends if you need high isos for your photography. If you don't the M240 is perfectly usable as is with any good raw converter. But you may have to use Dfine or other noise reducer at 3200/6400 iso and above. Not a big deal with fast lenses provided thin DoF is not a problem for you. But with my Macro-Elmar 90/4 i needed 12800 iso for this snap (http://tinyurl.com/jatys97) handheld for instance. Easy task for my A7s mod but my M240 was not the better camera for that.

For a serious reason to upgrade -sensorwise-  the M10 should really better these three substantially.

These cameras are all listed at 13+ stops. What is the absolute highest DR any digital camera has been tested with? 15? DR is the new obsession of serious amateurs, while most Pros shoot Canons, which have the lowest DR in some of these tests.

..... M9 is fine for an awful of of photography ;) . The quest for ever better says more about human nature than the genuine 'need' for a new camera. And it keeps manufacturers in business. Interesting that manufacturers can't win. If they cease supporting a camera they get criticised. If they manufactre it for too long they get criticised. Leica are in a no win situation at this stage of speculation I'd say ;) .

I hope it will not be a down as after the X Vario release....

The M10 will be a success and sell nicely is my prediction. There are enough Leica fans, who upgrade every cycle, and many in the starter wholes with M9s, who will be able to justify the purchase after skipping a generation. After all, there really is no alternative to an M as far as pure joy of photography goes (at least for me.)

Day -1 for me  :-)

I am looking daily to Jono's blog and Facebook  , But he would not even talk under torture :-)

You don't need to torture me, I'll always talk - just try to stop me!

It seems that the camera has followed Roger Cicala's camera introduction graph already - and that it couldn't possibly fail to be a real disappointment (to some people at least).

On the other hand, with so many diverse wants it's probable that it'll please some people as well!

I've looked at the pictures, and I've read all the specs, but it seems to me that the days of judging a camera by it's specs should be past - it's how it works that matters rather than which boxes it ticks.

I agree but it is difficult not to be excited when a new M is coming , even if we don't really need it

Oh! I'm really excited too - a new M is the biggest treat - not least for all the fun on the forum.

I just meant that camera reviews tend to stick to the measurable - and especially specification boxes to tick, which isn't terribly relevant . . . and leaky tick boxes even less so!

best

Jono
