Thanks.

How was the view through viewfinder with the ziploc bag in front?  And how did you clean the ziploc when powder landed in front of the viewfinder window?  Did you find the images adequately in focus setting the lens to f/8 and 6 feet?

you're welcom. rangefinder focus is not perfect but manageable - performs best as a point & shoot. wipe clean with a small cloth kept in your pocket, in another plastic bag (you'll get wet!). pre-focus worked okie using the lens tab but you can test this out for yourself very easily beforehand. if you want precise focus at wide apertures, it is a little more tricky with this set up but achievable with practice. test beforehand & obviously, shield your camera from direct water hits as much as you are able. use a damp towel afterwards to wipe excess powder from the outside & dry before removing your camera from the bag.

...If it were me, I'd just buy one of the various waterproof P&S models available, so that I can use it without any thought of protecting it from potential damage. I'm sure you'll get better images that way even if the ultimate IQ may not be as good....

I think I'd wear goggles and a painters mask as well!!

There's a lot to be said for plunging into the event with no concern for equipment. No matter how good the sealing, an M240 and Leica lens would make that mindset hard to achieve.

I just bought one of these for situations such as this:

It's not going to give you the image quality of an M but it will survive the event. I bought it to replace my Leica C that was ruined in a storm.

I totally agree.  I need to get over not being able to use my M.

I dug up my binned 5D, wrapped it in ziploc and tested throwing flour and water at it.  It held up well, but even it if doesn't, it's going back into the bin when I return.  I don't like the camera but if it offers worry free shooting I will probably get better photos with it, unfortunately, sans the Leica look and colors.

I am still toying with the idea of a Leica Q.

I have done this and it was lots of fun (ignoring any potential health impacts).  I bought an old Canon film SLR for $50 with lens and it worked great.  Opened it up afterwards, full of nasty stuff.  Threw it in trash.  End of story.

I just bought a 5D - funny how to me it's a 'new' thing to explore with and to another it's a piece of worthless trash.

Then again the Q seems to be considered by the OP in the same light!!

Not at all.  I will wrap the Q and take care of it so I can continue to use it when I return.  I read about M shooters loving their Q, maybe I will too.

It might be worth contacting these folks: http://www.ewa-marine.com/index.php?id=6. I imagine they've had inquiries from other Leica users.
