Guest Nowhereman Posted November 28, 2017 Share #822 Posted November 28, 2017 (edited) On an overcast day, another example of what Moriyama Daido calls a “no finder shot”: I held the camera in front of my chest after I pre-set the focus and shutter speed. Had I brought the camera up to my eye, at least one these people would have given me a great, big smile or made a “V-sign”. Peter H Posted November 30, 2017 Share #823 Posted November 30, 2017 What I particularly like about this lens is how it handles contre-jour. The combination of moderate contrast, good flare handling and "glow" (presumably some aberration thing) works well with modern film. So much so that I am willing to put up with the soft corners as a price worth paying. If you hadn't mentioned soft corners I wouldn't have noticed them, and I'm not sure I can now to any extent worth worrying about. Pleasing photo, by the way, feels nicely natural.
wattsy Posted December 1, 2017 Share #824 Posted December 1, 2017 If you hadn't mentioned soft corners I wouldn't have noticed them, and I'm not sure I can now to any extent worth worrying about. I'm fairly philosophical nowadays about sharpness (it is much less important to me than it was a few years ago) but there have been one or two photos where the soft corners have been more noticeable than ideal. For me, the most important lens characteristic I'm interested in is how the lens handles light – general contrast, how it copes in flarey situations, etc. – and the Summaron-M has been quite satisfying in this respect. Universalb50 Posted December 14, 2017 Share #832 Posted December 14, 2017 I found a W-Nikkor 28cm, the Nikon marketing response in the early 50's to the Summaron 28 you folks are all so enthusiastic about. It's a somewhat difficult lens to find in LTM mount. I'm very happy with performance, and of course it's faster at 3.5 than your Leica 5.6. if you can't afford the new Summaron, consider the Nikkor?

dbledsoe Posted December 16, 2017 Share #834 Posted December 16, 2017 For that price I think I’ll stay with my nice old Hektor 28/6.3. I like its bit of softness and vignetting. Most of all I love its classic character. Same with my 50/2.5 Hektor, 73/1.9 Hektor, and 135/4.5 Hektor. All made between 1932 and 1939, all in near mint condition. Took me 20 years to find them in the condition I wanted, lots of swaps in between on the road to finding what I wanted in the condition I wanted. Still looking for a 125/2.5 Hektor VISOFLEX lens to complete my set of Hektor lenses. Cannot afford a Leica digital M so use my Hektor lenses on my M6, IIIa, IIIc, If, and my Ricoh GXR-M (digital). Happy Trails to you, Don out West
