Coolest Mercedes-Benz 'Gullwing' ever.

Seen at the '16 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance - one of only 29 aluminum bodied 300SL Coupes. These were hand-built at the Untertürkheim werks, and then assmbled at the factory. The only Gullwing made in this color and with the light trim and the plaid racing seats. Original Rudge wheels, and one of only 4% of total Gullwing production ( approx. 1400 ) equipped with the high-performance racing motor.

The best, most authentic restoration I've ever seen, done by a small organization in England.

What a magnificent car ............without question the finest example of my 'dream car' I've ever run across.

These images were taken about mid-morning, about the time the car was to be judged, which, at this level of international Concours  can be a highly stressful time for owners, who must stand by and be available to only answer specific questions about the car and operate the controls and accessories. Many drink prodigous quantities of the terrible 'truck-stop' coffee available at the field, but not the owner of this Gullwing - being English, he calmly sipped his morning Tetley's, radiating confidence.

300SL is one of the most adorable beauties ever, I can understand Your dream with no doubt.

These Rudge wheels, god what a reluctance compared with wheelrims!

Unfortunately thoses aluminum bodied Coupes seemed not have to have side screens in the doors, obviously for solidity reason?

thanks for showing

Thomas
