This is what I found at the Leica booth:

A Leicina concept:

- Kind of camera with L bayonet

- Adapts different Leica lenses via adapters

- Can be handled like a Super 8 camera

- Takes a smartphone as display

Do you remember the Leicina?

But is no new product, only a study

Now I know that this may sound like profane to many of dedicated L users, but I feel it has much more potential than the Sofort.

But maybe I am wrong.....

Hello Andreas,

I would like to offer a suggestion:

The camera, etc seems like a nice idea . It might be improved & be made more universally functional by having the single hand grip underneath be modified so that it can be removed & supplemented with a hand grip on either side for both left handed & right handed users.

Simply having the single choice of a hand grip underneath may well make it a non-starter for a significant group of potential users. While having 3 options for how the camera could be held may add a number of people who would otherwise not be interested.

There are a number of situations & circumstances where having the option of 3 ways of being held instead of just 1 may well be significant.

Best Regards,

Michael

There was a camera developed with an M bayonet I think, called Ikonoskop but I am unsure of what happened to it. I seem to remember that it shot .DNG files at 25fps. Clearly it would be advantageous for Leica to have involvement in a market which is growing relative to stills.

Given how good the SL can be as a 4K video camera, especially so I am told, with follow focus lenses, is there a big enough market to a. warrant the R&D costs for a wholly new camera b. a big enough market to sell it at the high price it will no doubt be and c. sell enough to amortise the R&D costs to make a profit? I think to do this it would need a USP such as 6 or even 8K. The flat screen makers are pushing all the time for higher pixel counts to keep us upgrading. I would guess we will see the first 6K TV's on the market next year and 8K in around 2020.

Was the original Leicina a sales success against its similarly priced but higher specced, albeit larger, super 8mm competitors from Beaulieu and Paillard Bolex?
