Five new Leica SL lenses to be announced

These look fine, although only the wide zoom pushes the envelope significantly beyond what is possible to shoot with the current zooms (which include OIS).  The primes also compete with their M counterparts.  They will have AF and weather sealing and, perhaps, OIS, too.  So the interesting question is whether Leica have chosen to make them light and compact, or not.

With regards to the zoom I was probably more hoping for a 12-24 zoom...  now there is a significant overlap with the 24-90 and a 12-24 would probably have been lighter...

Then again the T wide-angle zoom was 17-35mm eq so 16-35mm was probably to be expected.

Replacing the 75mm or the 90mm with a longer lens or a dedicated macro would have given a more balanced lens offer IMHO...

Still pretty pleased that in addition to the 50mm they might be announcing 4 new lenses.

Hi!

I hope that Shipping will be before end of 2016 in stead of end of 2017!

Thanks!

Sure, but we don't yet have the SL 50 Summilux, which was (kind of) announced some time ago, and we're soon approaching end of 2016.  One hopes that the other lenses have been in development simultaneously.  My comment was a bit tongue in cheek.

More importantly, given the experience with S lens issues, I'm sure we'd much prefer waiting until all lenses have proven ready and reliable and before release.

For me, since I'm looking for a system to complement (not overlap) the M, I would have preferred primes wider and longer than the 28-90 range.  Oh well.

SUMMICRON-SL 35mm

APO-SUMMICRON-SL 75mm

APO-SUMMICRON-SL 90mm

SUPER-VARIO-ELMAR-SL 16-35mm

I hope the filter size of the Summicrons will be less than 82 mm.

Glad to hear Summicrons and I hope they are not as big as the Summilux 50. I am very interested in 35 and 75.

Good news, and I agree it shows commitment to the system by Leica.

I suspect I won't indulge my GAS with any of these. The versatility and IQ of the standard zoom are too good to make me want to pay for the extra stop and a half on the primes (not for one moment do I think the primes will be light and small). I could be torn between the new w/a zoom and a WATE for no other reason than the weather sealing on the new lens - I've enjoyed taking landscapes in the rain with the SL.

Nobody ever complained about the IQ of the 24-90. The problem is the weight and size. And the primes could address that.

And Summicrons tend to be smaller than Summiluxes, so good news. (I have actually never seen a huge Summicron - apart from the 2/180).

But it is just a rumour/whisper or not ? And I do not know how reliable this source is.

I agree. I had the opportunity to buy the 24-90 for a good price today.

But after trying it for a few weeks against the R 28-90 I decided to let the SL 24-90 go. To big, to heavy and that lens-hood attracted to much attention and occupied to much estate in my camera bag.

If the SL APO 75/2 and 90/2 are really smaller than the SL 50/1,4 I think I will go for one of them.

Let me try:

SUMMICRON-SL 35mm $3495

APO-SUMMICRON-SL 75mm $3995

APO-SUMMICRON-SL 90mm $4495

SUPER-VARIO-ELMAR-SL 16-35mm $4995

I expect the Zoom to be more expensive (rather 8000 or more, depending upon the aperture).. And the primes to be less expensive. But who knows.

At these prices I will not be able to afford them before 2017 or 2018. So no hurry, Leica.
