Does anybody know how to make a factory reset on a Leica Q ?

Page 203 of one of the versions of the Q manual.   It's also in the index under index.  However the manual doesn't give you the details -- a common complaint I have about Leica manuals.

Short version... hit the menu button.  Scroll down to the last entry named RESET.   When that item is selected you are asked three questions and can answer yes or no to each question.  The questions are presented serially... don't give up because the first question is about user settings.   The last question is about camera settings.

I want to completely reset the Q, not reset the user settings ... I want to re-install firmware 1.1 because the AF on 2.0 is worst

I strongly suggest that you email software-support@leica-camera.com to enquire whether the current version firmware can be replaced with the original. During testing of firmware, it was problematical, so don't take chances.

I want to re-install firmware 1.1

This is not possible after upgrading to firmware 2.0.

because the AF on 2.0 is worst

Please explain your problems with the AF. I see no differences in AF performance (with the same size of the AF field like in firmware 1.1)

Please try to describe your problem with AF. I can confirm it was a discussion among beta-testers whether  it is possible to go back to an earlier firmware. This proved to be not an option.

I cannot at all see any problems with AF. Sometimes it happens that one forgets being in macro mode because changing is so sooth and the change from AF to manual focus is likewise sometimes a thing one dos not realize at once while shooting.

Ditto on Iduna's comments. I've made the mistake of not realizing that I was in manual focus. Outside in bright light I could not see the focus square highlighted in the viewfinder. I just assumed it was my old eyes. In fact, it was not there because I was in manual mode. After doing this a few times I now know to check.

The main problem is the fact that is slower ( great diferrence ) and most of the time tends to focus on the back of the subject... I noticed my hit rate decrease a lot ... I do street photography and with the 1.1 firmware was great, AFs always on spot and a lot faster on focusing

aha, slower mmmh.

I could not recognize any difference with AF. I also do  a lot of street. I also have an Olympus EMEMKII with a very quick AF but I prefer the Q because the shot is taken as soon as the touchscreen is being hit. I use a very fast SD card from SanDisc Pro 64 GB and 95 MB/sec. If you use a slower card maybe it takes a while before you can take the next shot. This is also important when using burst.  You said it hits on the back of the subject. This should not at all be so. I am afraid you should check all your default settings. I use spot metering all the time and do not have any spoilers. I do not use any other settings but concentrate on speed and f-stop with Auto ISO. But I'll keep your question in mind and will go back to this thread when I find the clue.

  • 7 years later...

My screen went black and I cannot do anything after upgrading to 5.0. If I play with the aperture ring, I had one incident when the image (preview) came on and then shut down again to black. The menus still work though. I have done everything: reformatted the card, reset the camera many times, and tried to re-install 5.0 (it says it can't since it is already installed). Based on what I am ready here it is impossible to downgrade to 4.0. And Leica repair says they have a wait of 8 months to fix cameras!  I am convinced that the problem is that during the installation of 5.0 the file was corrupted. Maybe the camera did an auto 2-minute shutdown (but the upgrade didn't take that long. The battery was fully charged, per the Leica manual. I have another Q2 which I upgraded and it went flawlessly and quickly. So I can't send it to Leica. It is a new used camera and I can't exchange it because there are no Q2 Leicas on the market at the same price.
