I am an experiential designer, which means I design experiences (interactions between human and tech) not physical objects. And I have just published a concept of Leica Q-P – a more focused purist version of Q.You can check it out here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/41794509/LEICA-Q-PJust wanted to ask what you think about such a camera.Do you like it or not? Would you buy one if Leica were to produce it? Thanks in advance!O. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Hi oleg_l, Take a look here Leica Q-P concept. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Leica Guy Posted August 17, 2016 Share #2 Posted August 17, 2016 I like what you are showing. The minimalist approach moves the camera into being more purist. I'll look at your menus and details more carefully in the next couple days. I wish for a cable release on the on/off switch. That seems very basic to me given that I cannot attach a cable of any kind at this time to actuate a shutter release. Lastly, you did not mention it, but zooming to a point on the LCD and it staying in that magnified mode would be a fundamental improvement over now. Very interesting what you've proposed. Thanks. lucerne Posted August 17, 2016 Share #3 Posted August 17, 2016 Oleg Your proposals are beautifully presented and I do get he logic behind your proposals. However, I would be concerned that Leica would be deploying their resources to replace the current Q which has just had updated firmware to meet some of the deficiencies identified by users. Your proposals involve physical changes that will result in a new model so firmware can't help. . Do we need this alternative design right now? Do you find the Q unusable? I don't see any other posts from you? Who will want to buy my Q after that? I love my two Leica bodies, but I have to get some life and value from what I have. Will I get better pictures? I'm also happily shooting with the Leica M9 as are many others. Thanks for your efforts.
earleygallery Posted August 17, 2016 Share #4 Posted August 17, 2016 You've deleted the Leica dot for 'personal safety' but keep the Leica wording around the front of the lens? I don't get the whole taping over the logo thing tbh. I think it's a fashion bourne out of the assumption that press photographers do this for discretion whereas it's simply to avoid advertising a camera brand. Did you do away with the video function? Surely it's worth having? Sorry but I'd buy a Q over a QP.
prk60091 Posted August 18, 2016 Share #5 Posted August 18, 2016 while i have only used the continuous mode 1x in the past year. . . it was invaluable to have it so easily accessible.... to bury it in a layer of menus is not the leica way-- smells more like sony to me
Voxen Posted August 18, 2016 Share #6 Posted August 18, 2016 The only thing that bugs me with the Q is the switch to S impossible to achieve with one finger. The rest can be made perfect with firmware updates, no need for another body imo.
viramati Posted August 18, 2016 Share #7 Posted August 18, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) More customisation of the buttons would be great but the only real mechanical difference I would like to see in a future Q would be full weather sealing. ramosa Posted August 18, 2016 Share #8 Posted August 18, 2016 I'd buy a Q-P if it's 35, 40 or 50mm Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
zlatkob Posted August 19, 2016 Share #9 Posted August 19, 2016 Too "purist" for me. I like the video button and the S and C options on the power switch.
Peter H Posted August 19, 2016 Share #10 Posted August 19, 2016 The On/Off switch would be a great improvement, as it would be on the M as well.

lucerne Posted February 23, 2017 Share #14 Posted February 23, 2017 I wish the shutter button was more traditional with a threaded hole for using a release cable. I think the device shown the following link has the potential to give the Q functionality with a cable release. http://www.ukhp.co/kiwifotos-cr-x1-cable-release-adapter-for-leica-x1.html Someone with a 3D printer might produce the adaptor with precise dimensions to suit the Q. It's possible that this device in its present (Leica X1) form might be adequate.

zakzavada Posted February 25, 2017 Share #16 Posted February 25, 2017 Great work all around, Oleg, but I agree with other posts. I wouldn't care to see an alternate version of the same basic hardware specs. If this was a new model with an alternate lens option (though I do love the 28mm) that would be a different story. Also, why bother with the line about it not being a dedicated professional tool? I am a working professional and I use my Q in a professional setting on a regular basis...
