I can't update my S-lenses because Leica didn't update the firmware of the S2 anymore. Only with a S007 you can actually update the newest firmwares of the lenses. As I have plenty of S-lenses it would be a hassle to send them to Leica just for a simple firmwareupdate.

Also I'm very disapointed actually about the service of Leica. I called the responsible of Leica S two weeks before and he promissed me an update within a week .... haha. I sent them a mail a week before and didn't got any response yet. Hope they fix this soon.

Wouldn't your Leica dealer help you update the lenses with a demo S007?

I heard the same. Strange Leica doesnt offer a firmware for the older cameras to update lenses.

How does one update the lenses. Is attaching them to a body with the latest firmware enough? Or do you need to run the update from the card with the lens on?

I'm getting an S2 to try out the S system and I'll want to get the adaptor for my SL.

Gordon

As far as I understand you can update the lenses to the latest firmware only by using a S007. When you attach the lens with old firmware and turn the camera on the lens updates automatically.

So it looks like people who tant to use the adapter with S lens on the SL body but do not have access to an S007 have to bring the camera to Leica / a dealer who has access to a S007.

Yes, exactly: easiest solution is to take the lens to your dealer.

Hi folks

got my adapter today and was disapointed about the firmware issue on the lenses. Hope they will make an update available for the S006 and the S2 as well. I don't see myself moving with my S-lenses to a dealer just for a firmwareupdate).

Other question: The manual let think that the focussing is manual only???? I hope this is just wrong otherwise i would be highly disapointed!

Autofocus (AFs), but no tracking.

What is the deal with not being able to stack the S/SL adapter with the Contax/S adapter? Is it simply that it will not AF? Will it work manually as a dumb adapter at least? I am not aware of an SL to Contax 645 lens adapter out there, so if anyone knows of one, I would love to hear. Otherwise I would assume the Contax lenses could at least be used manually in this configuration seeing as they have aperture rings.

so finally got a loaner from Leica (S007) and updated almost all my S-lenses.

Unfortunately, the update disabled the AF-motor from my 30-90, so i have to send it to repair. i know of two other cases where the lens was defective after the update. Anyone else having this issue?

This happened to several lenses of mine with an S-006 body. And once with an S-007 body. And it's a Germany fix unfortunately.

I would not mind the manual focusing of my Contax 645 Macro. It's manual anyway. The S120mm. Macro is a nice lens, but the Contax 120mm lets work with 1 :1 enlargements.

Got my S to SL adapter yesterday...

Yeah, I first thought... It is manufactured as you would expect it from Leica. But... it requires to have Leica lenses with the very latest firmware. Unfortunately, if you have a S006, the latest S006 camera firmware does not have the very latest lense firmware. So, effectively, you cannot use the adapter if you never had a S007 body... gosh. I talked to Leica and they will help me get my lense firmware updated in a very unbureaucratic way, but certainly, this is a real issue everybody should be aware of. Leica told me that they are working on getting the latest lense firmware into the body firmware, but there is no info as to when this will be done.

So, as of now, I cannot tell you how the adapter works. Will send an update once I have been able to update the lense firmware.

I received notification today that B&H now has the adapter back in stock, and so I placed my order.  I had not ordered from their first round of adapter inventory, but since I own the 007 and S-25, S-70, S-100 and S-120 lenses, I justified the purchase.  With the two cameras, S007 and SL, my four S lenses will cover the following focal lengths: 20-25-56-70-80-100-96-120, in addition to the 24-90 range covered by the native SL lens.

Now I am hoping to add something in the 300 MM range.  I have considered the Hasselblad 300, but I hate to add another adapter just for that purpose.  Any suggestions, anyone?

For the S or SL?

The Hasselblad 300 won't work on the SL as you can't stack the adaptors. So you'll be looking at a solution for either camera, I would think. For the SL it's hard not to recommend the 90-280.

Gordon

Gordon, I am considering the Hasselblad 300 for the S.  Thanks.
