fotografr Posted June 7, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted June 7, 2007 That's a 21/2.8 Elmarit You are quite right, as I would have known if I'd looked at the photo closely enough. My friend told me it was the Super Angulon so that's what I posted. Sorry.
plasticman Posted June 8, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 8, 2007 Hi Brent Not sure if you got the last PM, but i made an initial 'informal' bid on the 21 - which i should add, is open to negotiation, of course. best //mani
humanized_form Posted June 8, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 8, 2007 Brent, i have sent you a message regarding the 35mm Summicron. Kevin
fotografr Posted June 8, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted June 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Brent Not sure if you got the last PM, but i made an initial 'informal' bid on the 21 - which i should add, is open to negotiation, of course. best //mani I did get it, but I think it would have to be doubled to be taken seriously. plasticman Posted June 8, 2007 Share #8 Posted June 8, 2007 I did get it, but I think it would have to be doubled to be taken seriously. When we PM'ed each other about it and you wondered about a more realistic price for an Elmarit 21 instead of a Super Angulon, i simply searched on RFF and the latest example I found was a MINT version for $1100 - which i sent to you as reference. You wrote back to say "Thanks. That one looks to be in better condition that the one my friend has, although I haven't seen it in person." My response was to offer $500 - and i added here that it was open to negotiation. Excuse me for saying that maybe you could have PM'ed me your feelings about my offer instead. Anyways, the price for the 21 starts at around $1000 then?
plasticman Posted June 8, 2007 Share #9 Posted June 8, 2007 And for anyone wondering about the lens that i sent as reference, here's the sale on RFF: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost-classifieds/showproduct.php?product=5254&cat=2 $1100 together with a Zeiss viewfinder and UV filter, boxed, mint. Now i'm sure some ebay research will turn up a number of higher (or lower) numbers, but this is what i had to go on, and i understood the process to be one of polite negotiation... oh well - the internet. Rona!d Posted June 8, 2007 Share #10 Posted June 8, 2007 Why do you discuss and publish PM-talking in public? Why do you discuss prices of a "for sale"-thing?
plasticman Posted June 8, 2007 Share #11 Posted June 8, 2007 Why do you discuss and publish PM-talking in public? Why do you discuss prices of a "for sale"-thing? Is it against the rules still? I thought that it was okay to buy and sell again, after the forum was no longer sponsored by Leica, itself? Should we ask the moderators to remove the thread? What is the status of these threads now? Sorry if anyone's upset by this - though I have no idea why they should be... All very confusing. PS: or just realized that you might have been worried about my quoting from the PM! Aplogies if this is a gross transgression of web-etiquette, but i didn't really quote anything particularly controversial. Honestly - i guess only on a Leica forum could an initial offer of $500 be considered so ridiculous that it didn't even warrant a reply...
Rona!d Posted June 8, 2007 Share #12 Posted June 8, 2007 First it confuses me personally, when somebody is talking in public about the content of a PM (personal message) he got from another forum member. And second you can discuss buy and sell themes via e-mail or PM after the first contact, can´t you? Is it from public interest telling everybody about how much something is worth to you and what not in a specific buy&sell-transaction? Point one and two have nothing to do with "forum"-rules, it starts earlier! Do you publish personal letters you get via snail-mail?
plasticman Posted June 8, 2007 Share #13 Posted June 8, 2007 Rona|d - with respect, although I agree with you to a certain extent, I don't think that anything really 'private' was revealed here. Read through the whole exchange again, it's really pretty harmless. The reason I quoted what fotografr had written to me was because I felt it was unfair of him to imply in a public forum that I'd made a totally ridiculous offer for the 21mm lens in a private message. In fact, all I was trying to establish was why I'd written what I did in my original offer. I've actually never bought any camera equipment on the net - now I'm being reminded why paying extra from a dealer is actually worth it. Seems to me like a fuss about nothing, frankly. Rona!d Posted June 8, 2007 Share #14 Posted June 8, 2007 That´s the point, not only your comment, also the first one about your offer via PM. Things which can be discussed personally (PM, e-mail) should be discussed personally without letting the forum participate. That was my point of view. Ronald ...Read through the whole exchange again, it's really pretty harmless. plasticman Posted June 8, 2007 Share #15 Posted June 8, 2007 Ok - point taken. Let's agree that it was all kinda bad form, and forget about it. I feel kinda sad that these things seem to get out of hand so quickly and easily: that people get offended, that feelings are hurt, that the web is so impersonal and at the same time so personal. Anyways, the lenses look nice - I'm sure they'll find a deserving home. If nothing else, at least no-one will be wasting any time offering amounts that are not worthy of response.
