jaapv Posted May 20, 2016 Share #4 Posted May 20, 2016 Puzzling. I cannot imagine two cameras that are more different.
dem331 Posted May 20, 2016 Share #5 Posted May 20, 2016 More than why?, what for? I think side by side comparisons of the same subject in identical conditions with different lenses are very interesting, when the subject is real life. So I want to take identical pictures of portraits or landscapes with 90mm AA and a tele-elamrit and compare not just sharpness, but tonality, colour, DR, contrast, OOF, etc. But a picture of an Eye Chart only tells me that those lenses have better definition than I will ever need, which I already knew. jaapv Posted May 20, 2016 Share #6 Posted May 20, 2016 Agree, Enrique. But two widely different focal lengths?

docmarten Posted May 20, 2016 Share #8 Posted May 20, 2016 Some call it "test", others "abusing the equipment"...(D800E! Otus! LeicaQ!... ). Go and take real photos!
ajmarton1 Posted May 20, 2016 Share #9 Posted May 20, 2016 What's the point. Go out and shoot pictures. It's a tool for an art form.
sumolux Posted May 20, 2016 Share #10 Posted May 20, 2016 In any case the lighting is different in each picture (note the light reflections in the doorpaint) so any comparison - regardless the debated value thereof - is moot.
mgrayson3 Posted May 20, 2016 Share #11 Posted May 20, 2016 I found it interesting and funny. I apologize to the OP if it was meant completely seriously, but it reads as an indictment of our passion for resolution charts (which I share, alas). On the serious side, it reminds us that we have some stupidly good lenses at our disposal and if we put at least 24MP on our subject, we'll get all the detail we need. --Matt
Lucena Posted May 20, 2016 Share #12 Posted May 20, 2016 I have the Q and a D800 with a whole set of pro primes and also the nikon 24-70 f/2.8 zoom. I use the Q more and more in everyday's life, leave the D800 for special subjects. Going round with the Q I dont feel frustrated not to carry the heavy nikon bulk: quality is equivalent, and as I dont print my pictures in a wall size I dont miss the 12mp difference... I wonder about the validity of some aspects of this, **but hey guys and gals**: please let's give the OP a break. One of the wonderful things about this forum is the usefulness, the generosity of trying to help teach others and the kind-spiritedness. IMO, some of the comments here are a bit too critical, blunt, and possibly hurtful. When you consider the horrible tone of most internet forums this place is an oasis. It has been for me. Ecaton Posted May 21, 2016 Share #18 Posted May 21, 2016 Useful comparison as it reveals a light switch which needs some cleaning.... So sensors are good an lenses sharp.
GiantTristan Posted May 21, 2016 Share #19 Posted May 21, 2016 Well - here is another comparison. Pictures taken at about the same vantage point, one in December the other in May. One D800 with Otus 55/1.4, the other with Leica Q, both wide open, hand held, base iso, converted with DxO and no further PP except for some cropping to get similar FOW. Welcome, dear visitor! Do we need joke posts? What exactly are we assessing here? The weather? Excuse me for asking, but who in this community is benefitting from viewing two images taken 5 months apart with two very different cameras, and then each processed for some unclear reason. Realistically, the D800 could have produced better results but that isn't the point. Really, this is a very pointless use of the forum. I look forward to finding/sharing useful knowledge when I log in. Go take photos!
