fotografr Posted April 17, 2016 Share #1  Posted April 17, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was up early this morning and looked out into the back garden just in time to see a beautiful Flicker hopping around. He perched very briefly on this stump, just long enough for one shutter click. I have no idea what he was eating (ants, I hope), but seemed to be finding plenty to peck at in the dirt. war Posted April 17, 2016 Share #2 Â Posted April 17, 2016 This is another beautiful image. That lens seems to be perfect for birding. Is the autofocus fast? And are these colors out of the camera or adjusted pp.?
fotografr Posted April 17, 2016 Author Share #3 Â Posted April 17, 2016 Thanks much. The autofocus is actually pretty fast and accurate. The colors are an accurate representation but I had to make adjustments and increase the contrast to get to that point. The reason is that I was shooting through a closed window that has a fine mesh screen on it so the original image was a bit flat. If I'd been outdoors, I probably could have posted straight from the camera. In my opinion, the VL114 is a very good birding and wildlife camera. I don't think much of the Intelligent Zoom, however, which interpolates to add to the zoom range beyond 400mm.
war Posted April 17, 2016 Share #4 Â Posted April 17, 2016 Thanks for the info it's a remarkable camera. Â The shot is even more amazing taken through a screen, pp or not. Â Flickers are beautiful, had one fly into my office through an open window. With the guidance of the people at Lincoln Park Zoo, after two hours I got him safely out. Fun while he was there though. I'll use it on occasion but tend to not use it when it isn't needed.
Tom Barry Posted April 18, 2016 Share #7 Â Posted April 18, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Really an excellent photo and a demonstration of the quality that is obtainable with the camera (mine's the Panasonic version). I use the "Intelligent zoom" frequently because using RAW limits some of the camera's features and the IZ reassures me right in the viewfinder that I am in focus and getting the composition right, especially when zoomed to full extension. But for most uses, I prefer and use RAW.
stuny Posted April 18, 2016 Share #8 Â Posted April 18, 2016 Beautiful. I leave the intelligent zoom switched on all the time. It only comes into play when you need more than 400 mm equivalent, and is instantly available when I need it.

I am very excited for many reasons.....one being that we are heading up North on Thursday into lake country to open our cabin for the season. Very happy. Thank you for the inspiration. I even got permission.
