A neighbour found this in the paddock while putting up some new fence line and, (knowing my peculiar fondness for such oddities) kindly brought it home for me.

Ece....thank you for your kind comment. You are correct, I too think the patina created by the lichen makes the subject, it is so nicely placed while being completely random and natural.

Bill....thank you also for your kind remarks! For a moment (but only a moment) I did consider giving this image the sepia treatment, but decided against it as I like the green tinges so much, a difficult decision though.

Stuart....thank you so much for looking and commenting.

Dee,

yes, your morbid favourites...this is special because of its somehow "fake" green. I prefer the colour version becuase the morbid colour is adding here a kind of irony. Nce idea to take it "home"

Thanks Iduna.....I think in this instance the colour version is my preference also, for the reasons you state. And indeed it was kind of them to bring this specimen home,

I get a lot of skulls as "gifts" nowadays, everyone has  picked up on the fact that I like their sculptural qualities for photography, I have a quite large collection from the

tiniest bird and baby mouse upwards, and I'm looking like running out of storage space!

Another morbid favourite for Iduna.

The ram's skull is fantastic Dee.  I don't find this stuff morbid, at all.  They just fascinate and have great textural qualities.  Even though the spirit has passed on, I still see them as part of the animal kingdom.

And well...just nature.

One day perhaps you'll do the platypus skull, in your special way... ;)
