platypus Posted April 12, 2016 Share #1 Posted April 12, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) A neighbour found this in the paddock while putting up some new fence line and, (knowing my peculiar fondness for such oddities) kindly brought it home for me. allamande Posted April 12, 2016 Share #2 Posted April 12, 2016 Very nice! I like the moss which adds further to the story. Ece
Northwest Wanderer Posted April 12, 2016 Share #3 Posted April 12, 2016 Nice image Dee. Old cow skulls are interesting looking. This image would also look good in b&w or a sepia tone to give it an aged look.
stuny Posted April 12, 2016 Share #4 Posted April 12, 2016 I agree with both Bill and Ece.
platypus Posted April 12, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted April 12, 2016 Ece....thank you for your kind comment. You are correct, I too think the patina created by the lichen makes the subject, it is so nicely placed while being completely random and natural. Bill....thank you also for your kind remarks! For a moment (but only a moment) I did consider giving this image the sepia treatment, but decided against it as I like the green tinges so much, a difficult decision though. Stuart....thank you so much for looking and commenting.
platypus Posted April 14, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted April 14, 2016 A rethink.....with thanks to Bill for the suggestion. Welcome, dear visitor! david strachan Posted April 14, 2016 Share #7 Posted April 14, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Both look good Dee. Perhaps cropped just a weeny bit too tightly. The nice textures work in both colour and Mono...I'm even balance on both renditions. It's a great subject...you are good at these sort of things. all best Dave S
Iduna Posted April 16, 2016 Share #8 Posted April 16, 2016 Dee, yes, your morbid favourites...this is special because of its somehow "fake" green. I prefer the colour version becuase the morbid colour is adding here a kind of irony. Nce idea to take it "home"
platypus Posted April 16, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted April 16, 2016 Thanks Iduna.....I think in this instance the colour version is my preference also, for the reasons you state. And indeed it was kind of them to bring this specimen home, I get a lot of skulls as "gifts" nowadays, everyone has picked up on the fact that I like their sculptural qualities for photography, I have a quite large collection from the tiniest bird and baby mouse upwards, and I'm looking like running out of storage space! platypus Posted April 16, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted April 16, 2016 Stud ram skull. Another morbid favourite for Iduna. M262/75 Lux Welcome, dear visitor! fotografr Posted April 17, 2016 Share #11 Posted April 17, 2016 Tell your neighbor thanks from all of us at the Leica Forum. It's a classic and looks like something out the American West. The ram skull is also amazing.
david strachan Posted April 20, 2016 Share #12 Posted April 20, 2016 The ram's skull is fantastic Dee. I don't find this stuff morbid, at all. They just fascinate and have great textural qualities. Even though the spirit has passed on, I still see them as part of the animal kingdom. And well...just nature. One day perhaps you'll do the platypus skull, in your special way...
