75mm apo is smaller and lighter but has more cluttered frame lines in the OV.

90mm apo is bigger, heavier but has less clutter in the OV.

for those that have used both, any reason why you prefer the 75mm or the 90mm?

Pros and Cons?

Is one lens sharper then the other?

I would be using these lenses for portraits or adults and small children.

thank you.

The 75mm focus closer and is a lot smaller and lighter.

I think both are stupidily sharp, it depends more on the user than on the lenses to get a sharp image.

75mm and 50mm are very close, it pairs better with a 35mm.

For portraits you can't go wrong with any of the two lenses.

I currently own the 21SEM, 35FLE, 50 APO, Notci 50 f/1.  I was looking for a bit more reach and decided to pickup the 90APO.  After a few days of test shots,  I felt the 90APO was just too soft for non portrait work; in addition to being a heavy chunk of glass to lug around and a need for a very sharp eye to achieve critical focus long range. As a result, I returned the lens.  Most of what I've read along the way points to the 75mm APO as being sharper relative to the 90APO. I've also seen the 90APO used with the Maco Adapter with very nice results.

At this point I'm staying at 50mm and under for my Leica gear and will use my 50 f/1 or APO for portrait work  or turn to my Nikon gear for work that required a focal length > 50mm.

+1

I have both, and don't see much difference in sharpness. I prefer the 90 as the better FL for portraits, headshots in particular, and the 75 for street photography and figure shots: the 75 Apo and the 28 Elmarit Asph are the two lenses I most frequently carry with me all day while travelling. I don't usually take the 90 travelling.

I have both lenses and don't see significant differences as far as sharpness and color rendition. Both are very sharp at all apertures in the center of the frame and at f/4 and on in borders and corners. The 75/2 has perhaps a bit more CA but the diffence is not huge at all. Of course the 90/2 is more demanding re focus accuracy at full aperture, better use a magnifier or an EVF to nail focus with it although i have no problem with the RF of my M240 personally. Both lenses work fine on my M240 and A7s mod bodies. The focus ring of the 75/2 may not be the smoothest due to the floating element of the lens. As mentioned above, the 90/2 is bulkier (76x64mm, 500g) than the 75/2 (67x58, 430g) but the difference is not huge here either. An important point is the minimum focus distance of 0.7 metre for the 75/2 vs 1 metre for the 90/2. In portrait, both lenses are too sharp for my tastes and those of my not so young models. I/they prefer the latest M or R 90/2 pre-apo or lenses like Elmarit 92/2.8 v1 but it is a matter of needs and personal preferences obviously.

Anyone here not like the cluttered 75mm frame lines, or is this something you get used to?

the 90mm frame lines in the 240 ov are much cleaner.......

Cleaner i would not say this but i find the proximity of 50 and 75 framelines somewhat disturbing.

Qua character I prefer the SAA90. I don't own the 75cron but loaned it before I decided for the 90. I own the 75lux and I prefer this above the 75cron. Nevertheless, any 75 is more ideal for children, if not The most ideal. The 75 is also ideal for double portraits, like couples, or parent-child. I use the 90 not only for individual portraits but just as much for landscape.

I agree with someone here above that the difference between 75 and 50 is small, smaller than 75 vs 90. I prefer a 75 often above a 50, e.g. for street photography. I have never bothered about framelines, I even use the 75 on an M4 and got used to it very soon

Forgot to say that both lenses show a bit of flare and are less performant than 90/2 v3, 90/2.8 v2, 90/4 macro and M-Rokkor 90/4 from this viewpoint. None of the latters is totally flare free (if any) though.
