Still waiting for mine.........

I haven't seen posts from anyone else getting one recently here or on FB. Looks like a longer than expected hiatus in production/delivery.

 

Has Mr. Magoo, who runs Leica's QC department, finally been to Specsavers and is failing every lens?

I've had mine since late March and couldn't be happier with it. Fast, accurate AF; gets the job done when I'm thirty to forty feet away shooting my daughters' fast moving dance performances, even in the rain.

 

Obviously, it's large and isn't going to be a daily carry. But the system weighed in at a similar 5.7-5.8 lbs as my 5DMk3 + 70-200, and without the hood was only about 5/8 of an inch longer.

 

I've traded in my 5DMk3 and L lenses. For my needs I'm good to go with the SL + 24-90 and 90-280.

Next batch may appear around the end of the month, according to dealers. Presumably they are reconfiguring the production process. Those that have theirs already presumably have the perforation-free version of the Penny Black equivalent.

Can you explain what this means ?

It means that you have a rare first edition.

According to the Wiki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny_Black), Penny Black only came unperforated. Is that incorrect? Did you mean, perhaps, uncanceled?

FYI I picked my 90-280 lens in Sydney today. There is one more available now in Paxtons and two more at Digidirect.

Can't wait to try it!

I haven't examined the packaging that close but I doubt it gives a date when it was made exactly.

Hmm. My SL24-90 box's identification sticker has on it "2015/10/20" ... definitely the date of being packaged, if not actually manufactured. No such sticker on the SL90-280 box?

I didn't pay attention, and the box is locked up in the car's boot in the garage for now, will check tomorrow morning and post

Hopefully as it would seem Leica UK has received a batch, one will head up to Scotland to Ffordes and that one has my name on it. It will then head down to the south of France. I hope it is robust enough to survive all this air travel.

One might guess that no changes were made: it's just that production was in batches, and this is the first batch after they've seen what initial demand looks like.
