wlaidlaw Posted May 2, 2016 Share #281 Posted May 2, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Still waiting for mine......... I haven't seen posts from anyone else getting one recently here or on FB. Looks like a longer than expected hiatus in production/delivery. Has Mr. Magoo, who runs Leica's QC department, finally been to Specsavers and is failing every lens? Wilson
Advertisement Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Hi wlaidlaw, Take a look here 90-280/2.8-4. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
vcalanog Posted May 2, 2016 Share #282 Posted May 2, 2016 I've had mine since late March and couldn't be happier with it. Fast, accurate AF; gets the job done when I'm thirty to forty feet away shooting my daughters' fast moving dance performances, even in the rain. Obviously, it's large and isn't going to be a daily carry. But the system weighed in at a similar 5.7-5.8 lbs as my 5DMk3 + 70-200, and without the hood was only about 5/8 of an inch longer. I've traded in my 5DMk3 and L lenses. For my needs I'm good to go with the SL + 24-90 and 90-280.
jrp Posted May 2, 2016 Share #283 Posted May 2, 2016 Next batch may appear around the end of the month, according to dealers. Presumably they are reconfiguring the production process. Those that have theirs already presumably have the perforation-free version of the Penny Black equivalent.

jrp Posted May 2, 2016 Share #285 Posted May 2, 2016 It means that you have a rare first edition.
dgktkr Posted May 2, 2016 Share #286 Posted May 2, 2016 According to the Wiki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny_Black), Penny Black only came unperforated. Is that incorrect? Did you mean, perhaps, uncanceled? dgktkr
meerec Posted May 3, 2016 Share #287 Posted May 3, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) FYI I picked my 90-280 lens in Sydney today. There is one more available now in Paxtons and two more at Digidirect. Can't wait to try it!
jrp Posted May 3, 2016 Share #288 Posted May 3, 2016 When was your lens manufactured? Does the packaging give a date?
meerec Posted May 3, 2016 Share #289 Posted May 3, 2016 When was your lens manufactured? Does the packaging give a date? I haven't examined the packaging that close but I doubt it gives a date when it was made exactly.
ramarren Posted May 3, 2016 Share #290 Posted May 3, 2016 I haven't examined the packaging that close but I doubt it gives a date when it was made exactly. Hmm. My SL24-90 box's identification sticker has on it "2015/10/20" ... definitely the date of being packaged, if not actually manufactured. No such sticker on the SL90-280 box? No such sticker on the SL90-280 box? I didn't pay attention, and the box is locked up in the car's boot in the garage for now, will check tomorrow morning and post

wlaidlaw Posted May 4, 2016 Share #296 Posted May 4, 2016 Hopefully as it would seem Leica UK has received a batch, one will head up to Scotland to Ffordes and that one has my name on it. It will then head down to the south of France. I hope it is robust enough to survive all this air travel. Wilson
LocalHero1953 Posted May 4, 2016 Share #297 Posted May 4, 2016 Now picked it up: dated 28th April, on the box and on the QC card.
adamdewilde Posted May 4, 2016 Share #298 Posted May 4, 2016 What changes were made between the "first" version and the "second" version, if any?
LocalHero1953 Posted May 5, 2016 Share #299 Posted May 5, 2016 One might guess that no changes were made: it's just that production was in batches, and this is the first batch after they've seen what initial demand looks like.

Thats what I thought. Seems some don't agree?
