Look away if it offends you, I am sorry but this is how almost every derelict space is in my hometown.

Heroin - the scourge of my hometown, Bradford, West Yorkshire UK.  It drives 80% of crime, prostitution and untold misery.

I met a young man in a derelict building that I was photographing. He begged me to help him and showed me his legs and arms. Collapsed veins in his arms and his legs were in the early stage of gangrene yet he was still trying to inject and find a vein. He was well spoken and obviously from a good family and wept as he told me that his mother had disowned him and yes he knew it was wrong but the heroin had him it's grip and he just couldn't escape from it.

Leica M9 with 90mm Summicron lens

It is very sad that people turn to drugs for whatever reason. Out of interest, what help was he hoping you would give? Money? Medical?

Thanks for sharing this series. Even if it is within our small community it is good to raise awareness of the misery that exists in our society.

From a feature that I did looking at the Shia Islam "Day of Ashura" the "Day of Mourning"

This is a ceremony carried out by Shia's all over the world and is a funeral procession that remembers the martyrdom of Hussain the grandson of the prophet Mohammed (PBUH) at the battle of Karbala.

The men beat their chests to rhythmic funeral dirges and then back at the mosque flagellate themselves with sharpened knives on chains.

The women also take part in the procession and wear black as a mark of respect.

These were all taken in Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK. They were all on a pair of Leica M6's with 28mm Elmarit. 35mm Summicron, 50mm Summicron and 90mm Summicron lenses.

Film was Kodak TRI-X and as always in Kodak D76 diluted 1+1.

Paul, these are all so fantastic I think they need separate threads of their own.

It's a bit hard to do them justice to comply with the size restraints of the forum but I'm sure that you all get the gist of them.

Apologies for the © notices but these are "live" pictures and I don't want to have them taken for commercial gain - although I have no problem with anyone who wants to download for their own use.

I did do the feature also in colour using Nikon Digital cameras but I think that other than they are not Leica, colour could be a bit strong to share here.

Thanks for looking.

I'd like to see these if you have them elsewhere?
