jacelech Posted February 26, 2016 Share #1 Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Like many others here, I have a nostalgic affection for the MM and the M9. I'm looking at getting an additional used CCD M camera before they become extinct. I like the feel of the camera in the hand and the simplicity of the menus. First came the M9, which was a loud springy thing. Then came the MM which had a much quieter, more well behaved sound. I'm wondering if any of you have found that the more recent M9s or M9-Ps have a quieter shutter, or maybe its just a matter of several thousand activations to quiet the little guy down. I'm assuming later serial number will have a smoother shutter, but I'd be grateful for opinions from fellow users My serial numbers; M9 : 3838161 MM : 4344788 Thanks, everyone Jacek Edited February 26, 2016 by jacelech

jaapv Posted February 26, 2016 Share #2 Posted February 26, 2016 I don't hear any significant difference between my early M9 and my MM1. And I shouldn't. The shutters are identical throughout the series. There may be some minor sample variation, but it would not be linked to serial numbers or production dates. IWC Doppel Posted February 26, 2016 Share #3 Posted February 26, 2016 My M9-P has 23k actuations and is louder than my MM with less than 2k on
a.noctilux Posted February 26, 2016 Share #4 Posted February 26, 2016 Sometime, I feel that my MM is quieter than my M9...and reverse the other time. Then I realised that they had different lenses put on . Some bigger lenses filter more sound and vibrations, IMHA. Now the winner is M (type 262). That's another step to analog M sound (with no Motor of course). Regards, Arnaud
jacelech Posted February 26, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted February 26, 2016 Than you all for your replies. Interesting differences in experience. Arnaud, I wonder if you notice the difference in size between the 262 and the MM once you have become charmed by the quieter shutter and better buffer of the newer camera. Thanks Jacek
jaapv Posted February 26, 2016 Share #6 Posted February 26, 2016 That would be even more amazing, as they are the same size...

Thanks Jacek Jacek, I will surprise you. - it's the other way in benefit of M (type 262) the grip is more secure with the M (type 262) than with Monochrom by taking them each one rapidly in my hand, the MM rotating wheel that never bother me before become weird the small bump of the M 262 is welcome, I have never used "Thumbies". -That's a good thing, so by the way each one is identified by feel because they are very "same all-black-looking" or only red logo from front. Thorkild Ellerbaek Posted March 6, 2021 Share #8 Posted March 6, 2021 Is it possible to remove the "rewind" sound on the M9?
jaapv Posted March 6, 2021 Share #9 Posted March 6, 2021 No, because the shutter wouldn't be cocked in that case.
Jean-Michel Posted March 8, 2021 Share #10 Posted March 8, 2021 Well, you could always get a blimp for your camera and eliminate any sound coming from it. Might make the equipment more noticeable 😅
