Rona!d Posted June 2, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted June 2, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pete, right, too much work in the saltmines here. But today i saw dozens of undeveloped Tri-X stuff, so decided to start. This was last year (!) at the Nürburgring. Le Mans? I don´t think so, but it would be cool! Are you? elansprint72 Posted June 3, 2007 Share #8 Posted June 3, 2007 Le Mans? I don´t think so, but it would be cool! Are you? Ron Ron, LMC '06 was the best-ever thing I've been to in 40 years of shooting racing, and that includes our boys winning the modern 24 in '03. I'm counting the days to '08. :D You really should go. lambroving Posted June 3, 2007 Share #9 Posted June 3, 2007 MP/Tri-X Nice one! Looks very smooth for Tri-X. Must be your secret German developer... , or the new Tri-X has changed a lot. Nothing beats your shot of that RSK or whatever it was, just about to pull out onto the track. For those who haven't seen it, would you mind re-posting it here? lambroving Posted June 3, 2007 Share #10 Posted June 3, 2007 Nice shot Ron, but what a shame about those olde worlde leather straps! Did the Me262 have leather straps, naaaahhhhh! Probably the regs back in the day. At least they don't have to run roll cages at the Ring. These are required at the Monterey Historics and in all vintage racing over here now... lambroving Posted June 3, 2007 Share #13 Posted June 3, 2007 Really? Really. Have a look for yourself. Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races Might be safer..., but it sure makes the cars look dreadful.
stunsworth Posted June 3, 2007 Share #14 Posted June 3, 2007 Nice one! Looks very smooth for Tri-X. Must be your secret German developer... , or the new Tri-X has changed a lot. Hi William, when did you last use Tri-X and with what developer? I ask because when the emulsion was modified a few years ago one of the UK magazines compared the new Tri-X to the T grain T-Max 400 film. Surprise surprise Tri-X had finer grain than Tmax. I was surprised myself. I've shot lots and lots of Tri-X developed in Xtol and it is an excellent combination. Certainly I'd expect to see the level of tonality in Ron's excellent shot above. It certainly isn't the contrasty high grain emulsion that many people who haven't used it think.
stunsworth Posted June 3, 2007 Share #15 Posted June 3, 2007 Really. Have a look for yourself. Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races Might be safer..., but it sure makes the cars look dreadful. Now I'm not an expert <grin>, but looking at this page linked from the URL William gave... General Racing LTD > Rules It says... "ROLL BARS: Roll bars are very strongly recommended." ...so roll bars are recommended rather than be being mandatory. As I say, I'm not an expert, so there may be another interpretation of the rules as shown above.
elansprint72 Posted June 3, 2007 Share #16 Posted June 3, 2007 Well, I'm not sure where this thread is going but... as a user of Tri-X from the 1960's to the late 80's I was totally amazed when I shot a roll last year; the grain was miniscule compared to what I was used to. I have to say that I was disappointed because I envisaged something much more gritty, and unfortunately that was the pitch I had put to my client; thank heavens for Photoshop. Out of curiousity I looked at the link which William kindly provided; it seems from the many gallery photos that only the cars which run in US domestic "round the cones" events fit these ugly add-ons. Can't really see any of the Indy roadster dudes complying with this "requirement" this year. For sure the international racers will not have them. "A little learning is a dangerous thing; drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring: there shallow draughts intoxicate the brain, and drinking largely sobers us again." Alexander Pope, 1688-1744. lambroving Posted June 3, 2007 Share #17 Posted June 3, 2007 The rules for vintage racing, not exhibition drives, will be found here. Sportscar Vintage Racing Association The bars ain't optional. In fact, fuel cells are required as well as a lot more. My son has assisted in the preparation of several SVRA cars of various makes. There is no "free lunch"... stunsworth Posted June 3, 2007 Share #18 Posted June 3, 2007 I applogise William. When you wrote "These are required at the Monterey Historics and in all vintage racing over here", I assumed you were referring to both those events. I didn't realise that you were actually only referring to the second of them. I guess after years of working in IT 'and' takes on a specific meaning. elansprint72 Posted June 3, 2007 Share #19 Posted June 3, 2007 William, You are absolutely correct. SVRA = US domestic events. Monterey = something else, i.e the rest of the world rules. Guys with 5 million dollar cars are not going to chop them about because a few folks in a committee room make up a local rule. Post me some shots on 20th August proving your case. In the meantime, I'm off to Oulton Park for the VSCC races next Saturday, where folks without seat belts or roll-over bars will be racing cars up to 27 litres, (very, very, many of which have been invited to Monterey, where they will be......unchanged). Apologies to Ron; someone queried Tri-X grain and hijacked your thread.
