vic vic Posted August 2, 2006 Share #1 Posted August 2, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) since michaela nixdrof posted a thead about musical preferances here, i would go with a new thread about visaul art prefrances. again - intresting what is the range here among leica users or, is there anythiong common to be found. please - no photography artists here - this is a nice idea for new supperate thread. ah - i will also begin with my own prefrances: ok, in short - egon scheile is my favorite painter and alberto giacometi is my fave sculptor. i also love very much gustavv klimt, picasso and courbet. ah, another fave painter for me is brrent newman (a new yourk minimalist and intelectualist painter of 50/60...) However Giacometti is my most loved sculptor, unbeatable in every way and a real influence on my time studying. Others? Matisse (simply indredible), Picasso (likewise). Then there are perhaps the less important (to me) but almost equally favoured artists: Bacon, Deacon, Boltanski, Solano, Rothko, the list goes on and on. Special mention too to two great comic artists: Clowes and Ware who are both important to me as they have advanced 'comic' books and have a real influence on my own professional work. Picasso (especially portraits of Dora Mar, and "Une Femme Assisse/Jacqueline") Amadeo Modigliani - just about anything. I love the renaissance guys, but find them more impressive in-person. I was blown-away by a visit to the Pitti Palace in Florence. Floor-to-ceiling with masterpieces. Van Gogh, having completed a college semester of study on his life and career. Vic, you aksed me what I do, tricky question...Basically I am an illustrator/designer except that I specialise in working with companies and run a series of processes within an engagement to ensure that they are fully involved and 'own' whatever i produce for them...not sure if that makes sense but I can point you to our website as soon as it is complete. vic vic Posted August 2, 2006 Author Share #12 Posted August 2, 2006 ya, i think i clearly understand what u do gareth - im in those kind of busneses as well :-) i mean im photographer and also work on more managerial fields of it. ya, i would be intrested to see the web when done. about richter - ya sure, i love. and so i love many copnteproray artists of course, but then the list would be too long:-)) about picasso... well - it is difficlut question. of course there are periuds of picasso that u like more and those u like less. there are things that u may not like at all - and that is ok. but at the bototn line - i think he was great, and most important - many of his works are breathtaking and among the most inspiring. Church's estate) and still buy everything there is to read about the "school." I'm eager to go over to Hartford, where the Wadsworth Atheneum collection has come home from tour, plus some great photography (historical and contemporary) are all back on exhibition. In fact, I really think that Lichtenstein's quotations of Picasso are more interesting. I think that as much as Picasso was prolific, a lot of it was legend to be interesting. I think that we can create our own gods. And I just prefer Gerhard Richter over him all the time. Who else can create a masterpiece out of a recent political tragedy in Germany. And being a Leica guy, German politics and events are important to me. I won't claim to be objective and I know what I like. For example, Baselitz is awesome. Wooden sculptures of visceral feel to them. Just sweet and lovely for sure. Of course, Anselm Kiefer is beautiful with his monuments. Picasso painted a lot of variations on the same stuff: bulls, chicks/erotica, portraits of his buddies, Guerinica, classical art, and still lives. Richter did more: still lifes, toilet paper, landscapes, cityscapes, political art, portraits, erotic nudes, buildlngs, architectures, and purely abstract paintings. Picasso couldn't touch Richter on those radiant abstracts. I'm sorry. Plus Richter is much more photographic, seriously. It's like pure bokeh of genius. Ther former will be a mere footnote in art history while the other will be a very large chapter. And there seems little chance that Richter would exist without Picasso (and others). vic vic Posted August 3, 2006 Author Share #18 Posted August 3, 2006 albert, first of all, ya, maybe i should have mentioned richter in my list. i do love him very much, really love his works and the intensity, as well as style etc. but we should remember, that picasso is a milstone in art - icon on its own, and that is important, and even if we dont realy like (or not attached) to some parts of picasso, we should apreciate him very much. and about loving richter, no, it is not because im photograph who works usualy with selective focus with fast lenses, (although i dont have noctilux with f1:-)) ), it is because i love the way richter goes so deep under your skin (emotionally) when u see his works. looking at his works, u really sense the emotionality and the mentality of the artists. it is about the same feeling invokes in me as with schiele's works. so i think i can say, that probably, im more "attached" to richter in general than to picasso. but picasso is one of the most important points in the dealectics of visual art, that also should be said.
