I will have my Q on Friday and wondered what you Q guys are using as a triopod for the Q's. I am thinking one of those dinky little table top jobbies but would like to here what everyone else is using??

Later

I'm still using my 40 year old Leitz table tripod and large ball head.  The combination is compact, reasonably light, and can be carried as two pieces or together.  The strength, solidity and flexibility sets this apart from many others.  Downside?  A bit pricey but since mine has been used for so many years I believe it's well paid for itself.

Here is a quick example of what the combination can safely support.

Neil, that is the tripod itself.  While a camera could be attached directly, it is vastly better with one of the ball heads.  Without a ball head there really isn't much way of composing the photo.  The large ball head by Leitz gives the added flexibility of using the combination against your chest if there isn't anything to set it on.  Also different than most all other compacts, the legs can be splayed out in any position you want so that they can adjust to different surface heights, angles, etc. and also support the weight where needed (see the image above for supporting the lens weight).  Hope this helps.

For traveling I use one of the gorilla pods with a ball head.   Other times I want a real tripod.  My most recent is the aluminum version of the MeFoto Globetrotter.   I'm not going to be packing it on my back very far so I saved a few buck by not getting the Carbon Fiber version.  I've only had it a short while.  So far it is working quite well.

The Leitz tripod and ball head ways too much and isn't particularly portable. Solid, yes, but almost weighs as much as the camera if not more.

I bought the Q to travel light and at £10 this was a bargain. Camera sits nice and level.

It also doubles up as a grip to take the flash off the camera.

Apologies for the crap iShite photos.

I am going to the Leica store on Saturday. He has both Leica and other brands so I will see what he has. Ideally I want something that will easily fit in an Harley Pro bag.

Neil,

yes, the Leica tripod as mentioned before is very solid and can hold much heavier cameras.

But for versatility while travelling I use a Gorillapod from Joby. I prefer always to take those types made for heavier cameras. I tell you what I mean: when there are no big tripods being allowed in a church, nobody will complain if you fasten the Gorillapod wherever you can on the benches, relings, trees, branches, anywhere etc. In the streets you will always find something to mount your Joby. No other tripod is so flexible. The ball head of the smaller types are too weak and I prefer the professional one for which you need a ballhead.
