Mr.Q Posted February 16, 2016 Share #2 Posted February 16, 2016 I feel this manfrotto one provides the most versatility. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1163398-REG/manfrotto_209_492long_tabletop_tripod_with.html/prm/alsVwDtl
beauport Posted February 16, 2016 Share #3 Posted February 16, 2016 I'm still using my 40 year old Leitz table tripod and large ball head. The combination is compact, reasonably light, and can be carried as two pieces or together. The strength, solidity and flexibility sets this apart from many others. Downside? A bit pricey but since mine has been used for so many years I believe it's well paid for itself. Here is a quick example of what the combination can safely support. Welcome, dear visitor! beauport Posted February 16, 2016 Share #9 Posted February 16, 2016 Neil, that is the tripod itself. While a camera could be attached directly, it is vastly better with one of the ball heads. Without a ball head there really isn't much way of composing the photo. The large ball head by Leitz gives the added flexibility of using the combination against your chest if there isn't anything to set it on. Also different than most all other compacts, the legs can be splayed out in any position you want so that they can adjust to different surface heights, angles, etc. and also support the weight where needed (see the image above for supporting the lens weight). Hope this helps.
Lucena Posted February 16, 2016 Share #10 Posted February 16, 2016 Same: leitz table tripod + large ball head. Perfect with the Q and also with my D800+ heavy lenses, it holds.
marchyman Posted February 16, 2016 Share #11 Posted February 16, 2016 For traveling I use one of the gorilla pods with a ball head. Other times I want a real tripod. My most recent is the aluminum version of the MeFoto Globetrotter. I'm not going to be packing it on my back very far so I saved a few buck by not getting the Carbon Fiber version. I've only had it a short while. So far it is working quite well.
@McLeica Posted February 16, 2016 Share #12 Posted February 16, 2016 The Leitz tripod and ball head ways too much and isn't particularly portable. Solid, yes, but almost weighs as much as the camera if not more. I bought the Q to travel light and at £10 this was a bargain. Camera sits nice and level. It also doubles up as a grip to take the flash off the camera. Apologies for the crap iShite photos. Welcome, dear visitor! pico Posted February 16, 2016 Share #13 Posted February 16, 2016 I like the Leica ball head I use because it accommodates 3/8" and 1/4" without fussing with adapters. Very clever.
Jeff S Posted February 17, 2016 Share #14 Posted February 17, 2016 Leica table pod makes a nice 'chest pod', too. I've had mine for decades.....but prefer full size tripod for contemplative landscape work, etc, even with an M. Jeff
Pete McGill Posted February 17, 2016 Share #15 Posted February 17, 2016 I have the Leica table top tripod with the Leica ball head. It works great. Very stable.
Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted February 17, 2016 Share #16 Posted February 17, 2016 I am going to the Leica store on Saturday. He has both Leica and other brands so I will see what he has. Ideally I want something that will easily fit in an Harley Pro bag.
viramati Posted February 17, 2016 Share #17 Posted February 17, 2016 I always have one of these in my bag Compact Table Flexible Tripod at £1.55 it can't be beat and is fine for occasional use with the Q
johnwolf Posted February 17, 2016 Share #18 Posted February 17, 2016 When I want to go really light, I use one of these UltraPods. The pic does not show it, but it's got a Velcro stap on one leg, so you can mount it to a post or whatever. Small, light, and handy. John
pgk Posted February 17, 2016 Share #19 Posted February 17, 2016 I use these: http://www.fixationuk.com/Fixation/Fixation%20-%20Home/E57796DD-C71D-432B-A896-8E4B28909A10.html The OX Pro Mini with a Full Riser and Tripod head of your choice is as stable as anything can be and disassembles in seconds to store away. I bought mine yeas ago - brilliant item. (Not cheap).
Iduna Posted February 17, 2016 Share #20 Posted February 17, 2016 Neil, yes, the Leica tripod as mentioned before is very solid and can hold much heavier cameras. But for versatility while travelling I use a Gorillapod from Joby. I prefer always to take those types made for heavier cameras. I tell you what I mean: when there are no big tripods being allowed in a church, nobody will complain if you fasten the Gorillapod wherever you can on the benches, relings, trees, branches, anywhere etc. In the streets you will always find something to mount your Joby. No other tripod is so flexible. The ball head of the smaller types are too weak and I prefer the professional one for which you need a ballhead.
