markforce Posted February 25, 2016 Share #21 Posted February 25, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Could you please elaborate? How do they work? They have no colour information, so they cannot differentiate the tonal values by colour. The only thing they can do is tweak the contrast. I have to make assumptions but since there is a software at play in the first place, the 'color filter' application within the file cannot be anything else/more than an algorithm either and (assumption) merely responds to the selected film emulation values. If that makes sense. Will re-run a few files and post an example or two including the original to see but truth be told I was surprised to see the behaviour.
Advertisement Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Hi markforce, Take a look here ND filter or color filter?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
algrove Posted February 25, 2016 Share #22 Posted February 25, 2016 I just keep orange filters on my Monochrom lenses. Sure I have reds and yellows too, but prefer the contrast the ornage gives over the yellow. I use red when big white clouds are present with blue sky for a more dramatic look. louisfoubare.com
markforce Posted February 26, 2016 Share #23 Posted February 26, 2016 Could you please elaborate? How do they work? They have no colour information, so they cannot differentiate the tonal values by colour. The only thing they can do is tweak the contrast. Nevermind. The files do indeed adopt different shades between the available color filter settings, but upon closer inspection last night -- and in keeping with what everyone would expect -- not in a way to actually emulate color filter effects sort of out of the blue by some kind of wizardry. While the files do look different between each filter, it is nothing one couldn't achieve by moving light, shadow and stuff.
