earleygallery Posted February 2, 2016 Share #1 Posted February 2, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can you make a photo of a spud that could sell for $1M? Here’s your chance to find out! You may have already read about the potato portrait on the forum. Here's a link to an article about it and the photo http://petapixel.com/2016/01/21/this-photo-of-a-potato-sold-for-over-1000000/ Can you do better? Usual Leica challenge rules to apply, that is you must use a Leica camera and/or lens to make your photo (Panaleica’s OK, Leica lenses on other bodies OK, film or digital OK). The assignment is to produce a Spud portrait in any style you like – it doesn’t have to be shot against a black background, but it must be a single, whole, raw spud (no photos of chips, crisps, plates of mash or whatever). You have from now until Sunday 21st Feb to take/process your photo, and email your image to me (resized & ready for posting on the forum please) to croydonconfidential@yahoo.co.uk During the following week I will then post entries in a new thread for voting. The winner will achieve fame and possibly the attention of a certain very rich collector of spud photos. Good luck!

earleygallery Posted February 2, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted February 2, 2016 Sweet are fine, as are new or King Edward. I will allow rude ones and look-a-likes but it's really all about the potato. By the way, this is a genuine/serious challenge!
pop Posted February 2, 2016 Share #4 Posted February 2, 2016 By the way, this is a genuine/serious challenge! Yes, it is. Where on earth do I find one of those?

Manoleica Posted February 3, 2016 Share #12 Posted February 3, 2016 Madness? Oh sorry, a Leica should only be used to photograph 'luxury' items, stately homes, Porsche cars and Persian cats! It was a tongue in cheek statement, my Leicas are used to photograph everything from A-Z.. Peter H Posted February 3, 2016 Share #13 Posted February 3, 2016 This isn't serious, but it isn't funny. What's going on? Just feeling old maybe? It comes to us all.
earleygallery Posted February 3, 2016 Author Share #14 Posted February 3, 2016 Peter, I thought I'd set a challenge, that's all. Most people seem astonished that anyone would pay anything for a photo of a spud! I know I was. The challenge is to take a 'better' photo of a potato than the $1M photo. See if you can do 'better'. That's all. Participation is voluntary. Just a bit of fun.
Manoleica Posted February 3, 2016 Share #15 Posted February 3, 2016 Great idea, 1? - who's going to judge & who's going to pay the "dosh" for the winner? my spuds are ready...
Peter H Posted February 3, 2016 Share #16 Posted February 3, 2016 Yes, but the point of it was that it hadn't been done before, and it was slightly self- mocking and self-referential. The way to improve on it is to come up with a better idea, not take another photo of a potato.

Peter H Posted February 3, 2016 Share #20 Posted February 3, 2016 Shall we have a competition for a better idea for a competition? Don't you start getting chippy with me or I'll mash you up. I'm very thin skinned you know. I'm keeping an eye on you. You're the root of the problem here.
