Hi all,

Some recent images from an assignment for remote hospital in India. I'm currently working with Leica Australia on launching the 007, so I took it along to use as A camera.

If you have any queries, feel free to ask below.

Beautiful image, please share more. As a S007 owner (and previously S2) I'd be also interested in your observations regarding practicalities such as travel with the system, packing etc. I've traveled in Africa with my S2 and want to travel more with the S007 but the weight/size of the system present certain practical limitations and impose some choices... interested in hearing how you've coped. Btw, not only "material choices" but also artistic...the camera is very conspicuous in use, not exactly a "stealth machine" for street photography in markets etc.; I'd be interested in your "creative thought process" here, especially with portraits of local people, whether you staged your photos or asked people permission to photograph them.

Hi all,

Just got back to studio in Melbourne, loaded up the files on a 4k 31' LG and a 4k 55' LCD. It's really one once you render images on appropriate monitors do you 'feel' the medium format.

If anyone would like some DNG's to play with, please email me at woodrow.wilson@me.com

A patient from rural Melghat region, waiting to hear weather he can be operated on. It's about 3c when we shot this, everyone sleeping outside by fire, in clustered family groups. Leica S 007 35mm

A lower caste member of Melghat tribal area, a painter, taking a quiet moment before continuing his work on a new hospital ward. Last night I got back from an incredible few days embedded with a community with such unbelievable stories of strength, sorrow and disadvantage. Looking forward to sharing with you all shortly.

Thanks for the questions!

I believe for landscape, details and more 'controllable' portraits it would be perfect. Safari not so much unless you're dangerously close the animals.

I was able to fit the body and 35/100/180 all into a little Billingham shoulder bag - and I found it very stealthy to move about. India is a photographers dream, as most people want there portraits taken. During my assignment it was quite easy to ask in Hindi, the basics ' hello, would you like a photograph?'. The body gets heavy, but when you realise what it is capable of, you push through the weight issues.

With documentary work, I try 90% of the time to capture people unconstructed  - ambient light and quickly. However when you get the opportunity I try mix it up with more commercial lighting - but then you really need the trust and patience of the subject. Always ask permission - as I'm really more trying to get personalities, and expressions they are comfortable in giving -  and for me personally it's far more authentic and respectful.

What hasn't been written about enough however, is the video quality of the type 7. The 1080p 30fps at 10bit 422 is fantastic to tack onto stills situations - I don't believe I can upload to this forum but some samples are on my Instagram under www.instagram.com/woodrow_photographer

Not if you want to keep file size approaching 1MB (maximum data per post).

These are excellent and fascinating photographs. Please keep them coming.

Regards,

Mark

Hi all,

Thank-you for the feedback, it's nice to have found a professional forum.

The job itself was self assigned and I volunteered to join a plastic surgeon, as I specialise in that area with still and video.

How are others finding the 007? Any quirks or problems?

I was very surprised on this trip to enjoy the 35mm over the 100mm personally, and I suppose it's because of the sensor size that you're about have contextual wide shots mixed with isolation in the portraits.
