Advertisement Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Hi Steve Ricoh, Take a look here Pier . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Louis Posted January 17, 2016 Share #2 Posted January 17, 2016 Nice perspective, and I like the "contre jour" light.

A miller Posted January 18, 2016 Share #4 Posted January 18, 2016 nice lines on this one, Steve. It is interesting that, unlike the photo of the guy with the cart, I feel that this one could benefit from a little more popping of the highlights in order to enhance the contrast in the sky vs the bridge, canopy and man. Just a bit, not to blow highlights. Just my opinion...
Steve Ricoh Posted January 18, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted January 18, 2016 Thanks Adam - I'll take a look at the picture again in the light of your comments.
stuny Posted January 18, 2016 Share #6 Posted January 18, 2016 Quite lovely, and I'd like to see the results of Adam's suggestions.
Steve Ricoh Posted January 18, 2016 Author Share #7 Posted January 18, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Quite lovely, and I'd like to see the results of Adam's suggestions. I'll have a look Stuart, but the light was fading fast, heading swiftly towards dusk ( witnessed by the overhead lights being switched-on on the pier), hence not much light in the sky to play with. lmans Posted January 18, 2016 Share #8 Posted January 18, 2016 Put this is black and white.... very little color within this and in someways, almost distracting from the narrative the image is stating. Black and white with high contrast.......??? jim

Black and white with high contrast.......??? jim Not sure there's much, if any, of a narrative Jim... I just listened to the boss, the wife! I also had Adam's words of wisdom ringing in my ears! Anyway, here we are, Jim: Pier by Steve Wales, on Flickr
lmans Posted January 18, 2016 Share #10 Posted January 18, 2016 I like the black and white version much better....I think it just pops out more. The shadows are lost in either version such as underneath the bridge, but the colors of the beach, muddy water etc; I believe stand out more in black and white. Nice shot...jim
Iduna Posted January 18, 2016 Share #11 Posted January 18, 2016 Steve, great capture, yes and Adam is right: now the second version is much better and one can start to live in it and let the eye wander like the man on the bridge.
Steve Ricoh Posted January 18, 2016 Author Share #12 Posted January 18, 2016 Thanks Iduna ! Well, it was my instinct to go B&W in the first place, but instead I listened to my wife! (Adam must share some of the blame, he told me to listen to the Mrs, lol). With the endorsement received, I'll reprocess the B&W version for more 'pop' ! Steve Ricoh Posted January 18, 2016 Author Share #13 Posted January 18, 2016 Two further edits, one in colour and the other in B&W. Thoughts on the reprocessed versions would be appreciated (sorry for the agony, especially if you don't like Piers!). david strachan Posted January 18, 2016 Share #14 Posted January 18, 2016 Steve I like your re-edit in B&W. Nice geometry. A person often adds, as here. cheers Dave S
A miller Posted January 19, 2016 Share #15 Posted January 19, 2016 Steve - yes, your wife is right again (no surprise) and the second B&W version is much more along the lines of what I had in mind.
