I've learned over several decades that my photographs are better if I use a tripod. I'm more deliberate, contemplative, focused if I use a tripod. I slow down and I compose better. I take fewer, better, higher IQ photos. I enjoy the experience more than when I "spray and pray", which I've done plenty of in my earlier days in photography.

To that end, I wanted to add an arca-swiss mount to my new Q. I have multiple tripods already setup for that mount and wanted to be consistent in continuing with that standard.

I tried to buy a Really Right Stuff base, but so far that appears to be unavailable., I expect with the popularity of the Q, that will change. I hope so. They make great gear.

During the interim, I found an arca-swiss base made by Desmond on eBay and ordered it. It's the Desmond DP-60 ($12.50) which is 60 mm long and seemed a good fit for my needs. I have the Leica half case which had the magnetic flap and catch concealing the battery compartment. It may be sacrilege, but I cut that flap off and the new base fits amazingly very nicely into the open base now. Longer term I plan to buy a 100 mm Desmond base which will then completely cover the open area in the case. This solution does require me to unscrew the base to change the battery or SD card. I'm not happy about that and I am looking to arrange a base to allow the battery compartment to be accessed.

Hopefully some of you find this helpful. Feel free to ask questions.

A 38mm square plate that doesn't get in the way of the camera battery door on the Q came with a Peak Design strap I bought.  I stuff my camera in a cheap neoprene case -- case fit isn't an issue for me.

same here. i just use the plate from peak design straps or arca plates from the 3 legged things tripod (they are all the same size).

I've got the latest PK plate ... it covers the SD card door, and partially covers the battery lever.  BUT, the battery lever can still be activated and release the battery.

Wish the plate wasn't hex key tool required, though.  Would prefer a coin slot ... might consider modifying the head.  Time will tell.

I use the JJC grip, which includes the Arca mount, while leaving both battery / SD card accessible. It was a bargain price vs any other grip, too.

have a look here (it says it's not available from this vendor, but at least you can see the build):
