  1. Hi I recently managed to damage my Gitzo tripod and while I can fix it with some duck tape short term I need to start looking for a new one. My existing one is from the Gitzo 3-series and I am looking for something similiar, carbon fiber with a good max height (I am 181cm), nothing to monstrous but stabble enough for using for lanscape shooting with my S-006. What are you guys using and what do you recomend? I'm not in a hurry but I would appretiate som input, I've been looking at the RRS tripods but i am not sure about availability here in Eureop or if I must by from the US. Cheers, Joakim
  2. Hello Can somebody recommend a good Arca-Swiss compatible quick release plate for the S006? I have a Gitzo D type plate for my Gitzo tripod but it does not really fix the camera well. The camera tends to circle around the screw as there is only one fixing point and the plate is pure metal and no rubber. I have searched the various Arca Swiss plates but none says it is designed for the 006. I have seen the L-plate from RRS that is specially designed for the S but it is pricy and I am not sure whether this is suitable for me as it adds much to the overall size of the camera. Thank you in advance. Kind regards Swiss Leica Fan
  3. Hi everybody, I plan to do tabletop down to 1:1 macro product shots in portrait orientation. Lens will be the 24-90 with an +5 and +3 achromat. My current 3-way head by Manfrotto does not work very well for that, so I was thinking about an the RRS L-Plate (seems the most elegant solution on the market). My idea was to combine it with the Arca Swiss P0 Head (versatile, would be kind of universally usable) and maybe later with an Arca Swiss Cube. Another option could be the Acratech ballhead. Now my question is: Does the L-plate fit the heads properly? Do I miss sth? thanks and best -e-
  4. I am in the market for a Really Right Stuff tripod and head for my Q. I would be willing to dedicate the tripod to only the Q and not "planning for the future" where I might want to use it with a significantly heavier bigger setup. (Hopefully though, I could also use it when there is a slightly bigger Leica Q2? with longer or interchangeable lenses!) I would like something as compact and light as possible for use traveling and hiking. With all the options available, what are you all using of theirs and what would you recommend? I am 5 foot 7, BTW. I own the Leica large tabletop ball head 14110 and table top tripod, http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=29953&gclid=CjwKEAjw3fG4BRDsn9GAv7T2zEkSJACNJdjgWof-vT6I_bcvDK4JG1ry_PGgowYq7oUhn0VRrTTj1BoCCpHw_wcB&is=REG&ap=y&c3api=1876%2C52934714882%2C&Q=&A=details Would this Leica ball head be ok with one of their tripods or should I step up to an RRS ball head? What accessories would you recommend? Last time I looked into it, they hadn't made a plate dedicated to the Q - so how would the quick release problem be solved, if I do go the RRS ball head route? Thanks!
  5. I've learned over several decades that my photographs are better if I use a tripod. I'm more deliberate, contemplative, focused if I use a tripod. I slow down and I compose better. I take fewer, better, higher IQ photos. I enjoy the experience more than when I "spray and pray", which I've done plenty of in my earlier days in photography. To that end, I wanted to add an arca-swiss mount to my new Q. I have multiple tripods already setup for that mount and wanted to be consistent in continuing with that standard. I tried to buy a Really Right Stuff base, but so far that appears to be unavailable., I expect with the popularity of the Q, that will change. I hope so. They make great gear. During the interim, I found an arca-swiss base made by Desmond on eBay and ordered it. It's the Desmond DP-60 ($12.50) which is 60 mm long and seemed a good fit for my needs. I have the Leica half case which had the magnetic flap and catch concealing the battery compartment. It may be sacrilege, but I cut that flap off and the new base fits amazingly very nicely into the open base now. Longer term I plan to buy a 100 mm Desmond base which will then completely cover the open area in the case. This solution does require me to unscrew the base to change the battery or SD card. I'm not happy about that and I am looking to arrange a base to allow the battery compartment to be accessed. Hopefully some of you find this helpful. Feel free to ask questions.
  6. Has anyone tried to use the Leica table tripod and head with an S? I thought I'd ask before buying them both and trying it out for myself.
  7. Hello, I've been offered this at a good price, £40 but am unsure if it will suit my M-E with lens. Does anyone use such an item? How useful is it? I can see it being quite good for family self portraits, I don't have space for a proper tripod. Many thanks in advance, SY
  8. I often use my Q2 on a tripod in combination with a Sirui mounting system. I also have the original handgrip mounted on my Q2. To securely mount the Q2 on the bullhead of my tripod I use the small Sirui TY-C10 plate. This makes a quick and secure mounting/demounting of the Q2 on the tripod possible. The problem is that the plate blocks the big screw of the handgrip. I have to demount the plate to be able to reach the battery and/or memory card compartments. In my view this is simply a design weakness. (Another designers weakness is that the screw-hole in the handgrip is not central to the lens (as it in on the camerabody). I have to use several accessories to correctly mount the camera in central position on the tripod). To make the access of the compartments easier I have cut a small piece of thin (sheep)leather (0,2-0,4 mm) and put it under the plate. Now the Sirui plate fits solid on the camera body and the screw of the handgrip can be used without each time having to demount the Sirui plate.
  9. Hi all, I recently looking for a tripod for travel. I wish to have a light weight but rigid one. I am 183cm tall. Have looked a Gitzo GT1545T, it is high enough for me but the new designed legs are thick and nearly same as their traditional series 2 though it is series 1. I looked their GT0545T as well but the tripod is not high enough and always need to rise up the center column. Do you have any preference and what are you using? Thanks a lot.
  10. This maybe a newbie question, so apologies in advance: I bought a second hand Leica Tabletop Tripod with the Leitz ballhead (the older model), like the one on this site: A Bag, Strap, & Tripod | Adam Marelli Photo On top, where the camera goes, mine seems to have some sort of thread adapter that converts the tripod screw into a somewhat wider screw that older cameras used. Since I want to use it for my M8 I'm trying to remove this adapter but seem to be unable to do so - I've tried unscrewing the small screw on the side (I thought maybe that somehow held it in place) and tried it with pliers but to no avail. I would be most grateful for any hints!
  11. Hi Today I forgot my RSS bottom plate and had to use a sturdy SA quick change plate attached to the bottom of my M9. I was quite shocked by the reduced quality of photos due to increased vibrations. The standard plate of my M9 can easily be moved a mm in every direction, and when attached to tripod I hardly need the ballhead to move the camera (well nearly ). No but seriously, my original M9 is simply not usable in combination with a tripod without the RSS plate. Anyone else with same problem? Is this normal after just 2-3 years of use? My old Nikon SLRs held for years and years. Any suggestions how to improve would be highly appreciated. Luckily the new M is said to have an improved tripod mount.
  12. I guess that I am amazed at the IS on this little camera. I have no way to formally test lens resolution, but have developed a set of shots that I take with new cameras and then scan and enlarge in Photoshop to see how well they stand up. Not too scientific, but it gives me an small insight into what is going on. I do the very same pictures over and over. Well, I took my X1 out and took part of the series, but I left the IS "on" and only hand held it. Great pics that witstood quite a bit of enlargment on the computer. Then, I turned the IS "off," placed the X1 on a tripod and took the same pictures, from the same vantage point. The IS was turned off because of other reports that using IS on a tripod actually increases blur. Well, the hand-held images with IS were better than the tripod images! I do not know what to think about that. What really worries me is the degree of enlargement in photoshop equals or exceeds some of my Hasselblad and Rollei images. Maybe I sould simply sell all the heavy-duty stuff and stick with Leica.
