Italian Impressions

Just returned from a 14 days journey to Italy (Florence, Rome and Cetara) which gave me plenty of oppourtunity to improve my photograhic skills.

I'm glad for sharing these photos since they brought me close to a lot of interesting people.

These are just a few of a serie of 50 photos all kept in black white for that reportage style. The whole serie can be found at Nikolaj Palmskov Photos

All shot with Digilux2 in natural light. Feedback much appreciated...

Nikolaj,

welcome to the forum and please keep posting shots from your D2, you're getting great results in B&W. Your site is very nice; there are some really good shots on it. The top row of 5, for example, are all winners, as are many others. You'll know if it was intentional, but to me, some of your shots seem to be missing contrast - mostly blacks and greys, no pure whites - the first three you've posted here on the forum seem to be like that, a little flat.

Anyway, as I said earlier, you've got many excellent shots - keep up the good work.

EDIT - Just spotted the other pages on your site, there's much good work there too.

Nikolaj -

I'm glad to see that you've finally come over to the new forum. These are all excellent captures, some amusing (last one) and some very powerful (first one). However, I agree with John that some have too limited a tonal range and need to be lighter. Perhaps some post shotting work on your computer?

Thanks John for the feedback. Much appreciated. I can follow you on some of the flatness however they just seems to loose some details when adding more black in PS.

Since most of the natural lightning on the flat photos was grey in real life there's really not much contrast to adjust. Will try to adjust and add more black later though...

Hi Stuny,

Yes it really nice to be back. Actually I find this new forum really good with nice overview.

Thanks for your comment. Hope you'll get the time to check out the rest of the serie (url above). However I'm a bit confused since you suggest me to lightning the photos to avoid flatness?

Nikolaj,

I join the others in welcoming you to the forum. You have a good eye, these photos and the ones I looked at on your site all look very good to me. When I get to Italy again I would be very happy to do as well.

Richard
