Indeed!

Just curious if anyone knows where these ThumbsUp products are made?  Match Technical doesn't seem to provide this information for any of their products ...

Easy....

from the Match Technical website!

I went the other way....used a Thumbs Up for a few weeks, and now prefer a 'naked' Q.  A waste of money in my view especially as we usually have opposing thumbs and fingers.

FWIW, a Leica M9's Thumbs Up can also be used on a Leica Q. It will hide the small AE lock button but I do not find it very useful anyway.

If you don't need AE lock on that button, you can reassign 28-35-50 Switching, and just lightly press the TU to get the choices without taking your eye away from the viewfinder.  The M9 TU is used on both my cameras.

Nice accessory which makes a real difference to the handling. I have both this and the handgrip. I'd suggest just getting one our the other; having both doesn't add that much more.

The Thumbs Up looks really good one part of the paint work gets rubbed off. I'm still waiting for the same to happen with the lens hood.

  • 3 weeks later...

just get one.......I have a spare Thumbs Up from one of my M9's so I initially used that on the Q in spite of the fact that it covered the AE lock button. Even then I found I could sort of make it work with a bit of pressure on the Thumbs Up, sort of but really not good.

Caved in the other week whilst at the DC Leica Store and bought the proper one for the Q and I don't regret it. Sure it's expensive for what it is I guess, but isn't the Q, or pretty much anything Leica?

I managed to get out of there without seriously denting the Amex with a Leica S purchase. I looked at the SL, and found it rubbish against the S, ( my old EVF v OVF fixation ), but thankfully I made it to the door without spending megabucks.

I think the TU provides a great improvement to being able to firmly grasp the camera especially in conjunction with the grip. I walk around handholding the camera this way without the use of a strap mostly due to having both the TU and the grip installed.

Coincidentally, I posted a close up pic of what the setup looks like in the Leica Q Image Thread near the bottom of page 66.
