One should not raise false expectations either.

The fact Leica offers:

- A 24mm external optical viewfinder

- A 1.4x rangefinder magnifier, "recommended for focal lengths 75mm or more" (cited from Leica site)

Should be enough for the average person to understand the RF limitations.

Then again, this is for us normal people. Other forum users are free to use their special super-powers.

In other words, start practising fifty years ago?

And amazingly, the very same techniques still work...  using the viewfinder edges as a framing device, and focusing a 90mm f/2 lens...  and without additional expense for an external finder, magnifier, or $900 electronic gizmo.  Amazing I tell you!

$900 ? I paid $150 on Amazon for the M240 EVF.

I know all the other techniques, but I leave them to Wile E Coyote :)

Umm, new M262 looks like M9 body with CMOS 24mp sensor instead of CCD 18mp sensor merely.

I'm sure that LV is very useful in case of magnifier focusing and telephoto lens using and video recording function on Leica lens is still powerful advantage, I guess that M262 won't hit the Leica user target same as the ME version of M9, because of the characteristic of Leica user is to find the best or better not the cheaper one.

I thought it was a modification of ( or downgraded as you say ) the M240P?

No, doesn't have sapphire screen, 2GB buffer, frame preview lever, script at top, removal of red dot (although smaller than M240 dot), or removal of rear script.  It does, however, remove the M logo like the M-P, and offers things that neither the M240, nor the M-P offers, as in my above post.

I have found numerous spelling mistakes on Leica dealer websites as well. If you email them they will correct them. I hope that should I buy a new Leica it doesn't have "mistakes" in the production! I would like to be employed as their proofreader!

I tried the M262 today in München at Leica bei Meister. ( Nice salesman! )  Was not really impressed. I looks nice. Does not really feel much lighter. Shutter is interesting. I had my MP and M 240 for comparisson:

My " verdict " is , that the sound feels/ resembles a bit the MP 1/15 second sound. The motor transport and shuttermovement at the same time make this noise that lasts alsmost a 1/15. It's really something different. Nice " Leica " sound.

But,, I would not buy a Leica M262 next to my M 240 because the difference is IMHO not enough. Also I regret that this camera will not appear in chrome like the real chrome of the M 240 or my MP chrome.  That's maybe not possible with aluminium.

The little red dot looks al little bit " out of tune " on the camera, like it is a stranger in a strange place. I cannot describe the feeling another way. Maybe when Leica omitted the red dot, my feeling of a balanced camera would be better.  The reason that Leica made the red dot bigger with the M 240 was , as I recall, also to distract from the omission of the " third eye " in the camera. Now that it has made smaller I can see why it was not such a bad idea.

I'm sad to hear that, I really like the classic silver/chrome look.  Also, I have a chrome/silver elmarit that would look out of place on a black camera body.

One concern might be the wearing of the top plate, to judge from the vulnerability of black Leica lenses. For example although I did so with extreme care, fitting a lens hood to my new 90 f4 Macro left three indents from the claws on the hood. On the other hand my Chord DAC is anodised black finish on aluminium and remains pristine after three or four years.

Wow, this would have been more practical for me. I've not used the video function nor liveview on my M Typ240 ever.

I couldn't agree more... were I buying today it would be the 262 not the 240 for me... one wonders how many M240 users shoot video (<5%? or use live view <10% I suspect)...
