The SL really is pretty poor at rendering skin tones.......

Taken at the dress rehearsal for a musical.
SL + 24-90 (top) and 90-280 (bottom)

Who would have thought it?  The SL is actually a somewhat competent astronomy camera.  This was about an or of exposure time from the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, USA last night.  One minute exposures on a tracking mount at ISO 1600 using the 90-280 lens at 280 and f/4.  took about 75 of them.  This was a mean combine of the best 57 or so.  Processing is mediocre, but it was all done on an iPad, so you take wha you can get.  The subject is IC1396 which is an open cluster embedded in a cloud of hydrogen gas.

excellent work. Thanks for explaining the workflow. I will bet my life savings that I found the Trisolaris system in the middle of the photo.☀️☀️🌤️

Here is one from Irasburg Vermont, USA from sunset last night.  The passing rain shower created a lovely rainbow.  This was taken with an SL and a 16, 18, 21 Tri Elmar at 18mm, f/11, ISO 125, somewhere around 1/15s.  The light was lovely.

Excellent.  I really like this.

Thanks much!  Interestingly, most of the stars in the sky (by number) are part of multiple systems, a la the three body problem. It’s just that the stars are too close together to be resolved by a telescope, especially a small telescope like a telephoto lens.  Most are part of so-called spectroscopic doubles or multiples.  A few nearby stars are close enough and far enough apart from their companion(s) to actually show in a photograph like this one.  Those are fairly rare, though.  What often look like double or even triple stars in a small telescope are what is known as “visual binaries” which are stars that look like they may be part of the same system, but are actually foreground/background stars that just happen to line up.
