From the project 'Blood & Water'

My dad is fading. Slowly the memories and mannerisms that made him who he was are losing their colour and bleaching out to white. He is becoming unbearably light and as his history fades so my experience of him degrades and my own memories of the man who brought me up, taught me to be who I am, are being replaced by this pernicious disease. It is like Communism, replacing the history of the countries it robbed.

My mother, a force of nature, carries on. She cares for him, she cries for him and she prays that his heart will finish long before the final memories do.

...

Hi Greg,

My Dad faded into the mist of dementia some years ago.  He slowly lost his short term memory, then became anxious; as he deteriorated, he started to lose his vocabulary, then lost the power of speech altogether and ultimately disappeared, leaving behind an empty shell lying in a bed.  I think it all started in earnest when he was in his 80s.  He died at 93.

I always believed that despite the fog that engulfed him, the man I knew was still there behind those watery China blue eyes; I talked to him and treated him with respect to the end.  I liked to think there was recognition and warmth in his eyes when I greeted him, even when his condition robbed him of all dignity.

Enjoy the time you have with him, and keep alive the memory of the man that was - he's still in there somewhere.

Cheers

John

I wonder, do you eat them ? (in Norway ?)

I like (fresh) cod very much - it is the best fish and chips (by far) and one of my favorite meals. (yes really, simple but excellent) Here it is called Dorsch or Kabeljau (depending on the age). Or Stockfisch when dried.

But the dried fish is rarely eaten in Switzerland - I just heard that it is a meal for a feast in Portugal or Italy. But I always wondered why (cooked it looks like mash and is not much better)

So do you also eat the Stockfisch - and if yes, is there a nice recipe ? (different from the typical mash).

Interesting look - which filter is it ?

I wonder - if you did the same photo with electronic shutter - would there be a difference ?   ES + pol. vs MS + pol.

I am currently looking for "differences" between the two scenarios. (or the lack thereof)

i accidentally shot a few with the ES, was set to extended mode...sunny sky with buildings in the foreground..i noticed on the file with  at 1/16000  that the highlights were unmanageable as compared to an almost similar shot with MS

but will try and do a proper test once the sun decides to actually come out in the next few days.

Sure - we eat a lot of dried cod, or stockfish! Other variants of preserved fish is dried and salted cod. The history of stockfish goes back to at least the 13th century, whereas dried and salted cod is mostly known since the 18th century (due to the need for salt). Cod has been the main export from Norway for centuries, with Bergen on the south-western coast the main Norwegian hub in the Hanseatic League

Cod in Norwegian is "torsk", not dissimilar to your "Dorsch", by the way...

Been having issues with wide angle M-lenses on my SL with blue vignetting creeping in from the sides. I have been through the settings (since FW update) and realised they have defaulted because in my wisdom I forgot to copy settings during update.. oh well, crack on.

Here's my old C200 1999 up the lakes taken on a 24 Elmarit-M
