Group Shot

90-280

I just had one for a week to test - it's heavy! (2kg), but it's eminently useable hand held and great fun with the close focusing.

I'm just trying to buy one at the moment!

TS: I'd welcome any other samples from the 90-280 in Sicily. Any comments about in use? What does it do well? and not so well?

I think it's important to consider it as a health aid . . . possibly even a work out (it's heavy). However, it's a joy to use, the OIS works a treat and it's easy to hand hold (I didn't use the tripod at all in the week that I had it).

I'm not sure what it doesn't do well, but it seemed to me to be stellar, from 90-280 and from f2.8 to f16. Fast silent focusing. . . basically you're doomed (as I am so I have no sympathy!)

LOL! Frankly, I'd love one too, BUT ... I really don't use long lenses all that often at this point, use a tripod when I do most of the time, and don't feel a pressing need for what the SL90-280 offers (which for me is essentially image stabilization for hand-held, long tele shooting). Not at this time, anyway. Maybe next year.

The money I might have put in the kitty for the SL90-280 I used to acquire a WATE, so the long zoom is not on the table for some time to come. It's okay, I'll just suffer through with the R135, R180, and R250 lenses.

Well, I can't argue with that, the WATE is a wonderful thing with the SL, and you've got those glorious R lenses (which I haven't). For me, the ultimate travel kit might be:

SL WATE,24-90,90-280, 50 APO M, 60mm macro elmarit R . . . I'm sure they'll bring out a wide angle zoom, but the WATE does a cracking job, and who really needs AF for that?

I know I am. I've had it on order for a couple of weeks - but Red Dot Cameras have only had a couple so far - still waiting.
